The Generalization of the Logistic Discriminant Function Analysis and Mantel Score Test Procedures to Detection of Differential Testlet Functioning

Description: Two procedures for detection of differential item functioning (DIF) for polytomous items were generalized to detection of differential testlet functioning (DTLF). The methods compared were the logistic discriminant function analysis procedure for uniform and non-uniform DTLF (LDFA-U and LDFA-N), and the Mantel score test procedure. Further analysis included comparison of results of DTLF analysis using the Mantel procedure with DIF analysis of individual testlet items using the Mantel-Haenszel (… more

Ozone Pollution of Shale Gas Activities in North Texas

Description: The effect of shale gas activities on ground-level ozone pollution in the Dallas-Fort Worth area is studied in detail here. Ozone is a highly reactive species with harmful effects on human and environment. Shale gas development, or fracking, involves activities such as hydraulic fracturing, drilling, fluid mixing, and trucks idling that are sources of nitrogen oxides (NOX) and volatile organic compounds (VOC), two of the most important precursors of ozone. In this study two independent approach… more

The Fixed v. Variable Sampling Interval Shewhart X-Bar Control Chart in the Presence of Positively Autocorrelated Data

Description: This study uses simulation to examine differences between fixed sampling interval (FSI) and variable sampling interval (VSI) Shewhart X-bar control charts for processes that produce positively autocorrelated data. The influence of sample size (1 and 5), autocorrelation parameter, shift in process mean, and length of time between samples is investigated by comparing average time (ATS) and average number of samples (ANSS) to produce an out of control signal for FSI and VSI Shewhart X-bar charts. … more

Water Quality of the Neuse River, North Carolina--Variability, Pollution loads, and long-term trends

Description: From abstract: This report presents "a water-quality study of the Neuse River, based on data collected during 1956-77 at the U.S. Geological Survey stations at Clayton and Kinston, employs statistical trend analysis techniques that provide a framework for river-quality assessment." It includes maps, graphs, and tables.

Public Market Trade Areas: Local Goods, Farmers, and Community in the U.S. Southwest Region, 1996-2016

Description: The number of public markets in the United States increased from more than 300 in the 1970s to more than 8,600 by 2016. This increase in markets is related to changes in food production, localism and the local food systems movement, socioeconomic changes, cultural changes, and perceptions of embeddedness. Research on the underlying conditions for the success of public markets is scant in the United States, and especially in the USDA Southwest Region. This study provides analysis of public marke… more

[Letter from Campbell B. Read to Station Manager of KVTT-FM 91.7, "Request for Equal Time" - May 14, 1983]

Description: Letter from Campbell B. Read, Ph.D. to the Station Manager of the Christian radio station KVTT 91.7 FM in Dallas. Dr. Read is requesting equal time to respond to certain claims made by Dr. Paul Cameron, Dr. Clem Mueller, and a vice officer of the Dallas Police Department on the "Point of View" talk radio program on May 13, 1983. Early Music Audiences: A Survey and Analysis of Early Music Consumers in Texas

Description: Texas has a rich tradition of Early Music ensembles that dates back to 1969. However, there is little reliable information based on statistical data collection and analysis concerning Texas Early Music consumers. Little is known about why they attend Early Music performances or other important factors that affect the Early Music industry. Through the use of an extensive survey and accompanying statistical analysis, this study answers many questions regarding Early Music consumers in the State o… more

A gene based approach to test genetic association based on an optimally weighted combination of multiple traits

Description: In this article, the authors propose a statistical method by Testing an Optimally Weighted Combination of Multiple traits (TOW-CM) to test the association between multiple traits and multiple variants in a genomic region (a gene or pathway). They investigate the performance of the proposed method through extensive simulation studies. Their simulation studies show that the proposed method has correct type I error rates and is either the most powerful test or comparable with the most powerful tes… more
