Naturalia

Rapid eye movement

Description: Recording of Roger Doyle's Rapid eye movement. The title refers to the type of sleep called "Rapid Eye Movement" or REM, which is dream sleep. During REM sleep, the muscles of the eyes move as though the dreamer were watching something. Structurally, the work is conceived in the same way as Déjà vu occurs in life. The waste land

Description: Recording of Elżbieta Sikora's The waste land, for fixed media. The piece is a journey through time and spaces. The present is mixed with the past, the ordinary with the extraordinary, dream with reality. The work was commissioned by the Experimental Studio of Polish Radio and was realized in October 1979. The text comes from T. Elliot's poem "The Waste Land."

Inventio

Description: Recording of Sukhi Kang's "Inventio" for piano and prerecorded electronic sound. He used traditional Korean rhythmic elements (multirhythms) and blends them within the context of Western music and electronics to create the piece. The electronic sound is primarily derived from the pitch G on the piano, which is then electronically manipulated by duration, pitch and tone.

C.A.S.

Description: Recording of Boyko Stoyanov's C.A.S. Stoyanov was inspired by the interpretation of Chopin's Op. 30, no. 1 by the Japanese pianist Rikako Akatsu, performed at the Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw. In this work, the composer wanted to create a unique form, the basis of which provided by the electroacoustic music.

Ripsnorter

Description: Recording of Gerald Plain's Ripsnorter. The American slang term "ripsnorter" is defined in the dictionary as a thing that is unusually violent. "Ripsnorter" is one of a series of compositions that attempt to incorporate materials that are characteristic of Kentucky. The composer uses the folksong “Joe Clark,” changing the words slightly at the opening of the composition to achieve a gruff-like quality.

Strummin'

Description: Recording of Stephen Montague's Strummin'. This piece is based on a single chord which is pre-set by use of rubber wedges to depress the keys and evoked by a gentle sweeping of the piano strings with the right and left hands. The electronic sound grows from the acoustic chord, sustaining and gently transforming it.

Triple concerto

Yttringar (utterances)

Description: Recording of Åke Parmerud's "Yttringar (utterances)." Form and material derived from the Fibbonacci-series. One of the goals of the piece is to avoid the regular behavior of instruments and electroacoustic sounds as clearly separated entities by creating rapid "shadowings" between the tape-part and the live-part. The piece is performed with the conductor hearing a separate channel click-track in a head-phoneset, enabling him to keep in perfect sync with the tape-part.
