Effects of 5-hydroxytryptamine on Mouse Lumbar Motor Activity During Postnatal Development

Description: The lumbar motor activity in isolated spinal cords of 72 postnatal Balb/C mice aged 2, 5, 10 and 21 days (PN2-21) was electroneurographically recorded (ENG) via bilateral ventral roots following treatment with three different concentrations (25, 100 and 200 pM) of the neurotransmitter, 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), i.e., serotonin, to determine its effects on spinal pattern generation.

A Characterization of Liver Glyoxalase I From Normal Mice and Mice Bearing Lymphosarcoma

Description: The purpose of this investigation was (1) to isolate and purify glyoxalase I from the livers of normal DBA/lJ mice and the livers from mice bearing a lymphosarcoma tumor; and (2) to determine, at least with respect to glyoxalase I, if the tumor has an effect on the chemical properties or structure of macromolecules in an organ removed from tumor locale and not histologically affected by its presence.

The Response of White Mice to Pituitary Gonadotropins of Fish

Description: The purpose of this experiment is to determine if immature female white mice will react to the gonadotropic hormone from the anterior pituitary of several species of fish. If they can be shown to do so, a second purpose is to establish an assay unit for this fish gonadotropin in order that it may be used with predictable results in inducing extra-seasonal spawning for fresh-water conservation practices.

Studies of Mouse Hypersensitivities

Description: Having considered the data collected thus far concerning immediate and delayed hypersensitivity reactions in the mouse, the experimentation following is devised essentially to follow the pattern of Crowle in the production and testing for immunoresponse. Instead of using the normal solvent, that is, acetone, this work is also intended to partially evaluated the use of dimethyl sulfoxide as a solvent for the contact allergin, dinitroflurobenzene.
