Mesaverde Uranium Deposits in the Yale Point-Black Mountain Area, Arizona

Description: Abstract: To date uranium deposits have been confined to a thin sandstone in a zone near the contact of the Middle and Lower Members of the Toreva Formation and as a leach in the Lower Sandstone Member. On a large scale the deposits are apparently restricted to zones of tectonic deformation. Locally mineralization is primarily controlled by small intraformational channels and cross bedding, and is usually associated with carbonaceous material and quartzose sand lenses.

Uranium in Peru

Description: Introduction: From the inception of the effort to utilize atomic energy PerĆŗ has been of interest as a possible source of radioactive raw materials because of its great variety and abundance of metals. Because of this and a desire at that time to develop additional supplies of uranium, a cooperative program to search for uranium deposits was initiated in 1953 by the Junta and the USAEC.

Hydrogeologic and Water-Quality Characteristics of the Ironton-Galesville Aquifer, Southeast Minnesota

Description: Introduction: The U.S. Geological Survey began a study in 1980 of the quality of water in the principal aquifers of Minnesota. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency funded the study as part of the Underground Injection Control Program, which deals with disposal of liquid wastes beneath land surface. The initial report designated 14 aquifers in the State and provided general information about their geologic, hydrologic, and water-quality characteristics (Adolphson and others, 1981). Identification and Classification of Perennial Streams of Arkansas

Description: From introduction: The primary purpose of this study was to identify perennial streams. The secondary purpose was to classify them by flow. This information can be useful for planning and designing water supplies, analyzing environmental and economic impacts of various projects, water-quality modeling, and the determination of optimum and maintenance flows for a variety of instream uses.

Potential for Downward Leakage to the Floridan Aquifer, Green Swamp Area, Central Florida

Description: From introduction: For the purpose of this evaluation, which is qualitative, and which is based on an arbitrary numerical ranking of the thickness and hydraulic conductivity of the different materials involved, the intent was to include only the relatively pure sand beds, which would most readily store and transmit appreciable quantities of water and the clay beds, which would most effectively retard the downward movement of water to the Floridian aquifer.
