Down and Out: a Novel

Description: A creative dissertation consisting of two parts: a novel and a critical preface. The critical preface, titled “Novel without Falsehood” deals directly with David Shields’s Reality Hunger, touching on issues of reality as it pertains to truth, writing, fiction, and contemporary culture. The novel is entitled Down and Out and follows the fortunes of a small town in Arkansas before, during, and after its sole source of employment ceases to exist.

The Making of the Documentary Women at Work

Description: Women have fought for their rights to equal opportunity employment for more than a millennium. Even now, in the 21st century the fight continues. Women at Work explores the experiences of three women who work in male-dominated blue-collar jobs and discuses their struggles and successes within their employment. Their career choices have required each to address their individual views on feminism and femininity, as well as views on education and family.

Proposed Guidelines for an Industrial Arts Program for the Mentally Retarded in Public School Systems

Description: The problem was concerned with determining what skills were necessary for the employment of the mentally retarded and what guidelines may be used in developing these skills in the secondary level industrial arts program. The study developed guidelines which should prove useful to an industrial arts instructor having mentally retarded students in his classroom. The guidelines were based upon the results of an industrial survey and available literature.
