Cs--U--O Phase Diagram and its Application to Uranium--Plutonium Oxide Fast Reactor Fuel Pins

Description: Portions of the cesium-uranium-oxygen system have been investigated between 873 and 1273°K and a phase diagram has been constructed using our data and the data of other workers in the field. Thermodynamic and kinetic data have been used to examine the reactions that occur in fast-reactor fuel pins between fission-product cesium and the uranium oxide blanket. It was concluded that at the low oxygen potentials existing at the interface between the uranium-plutonium mixed-oxide and the uranium oxi… more

Thermodynamic Properties of Sulfides

Description: Bulletin issued by the U.S. Bureau of Mines containing a compilation of thermodynamic data regarding sulfides. There are tables for standard heat capacities (includes equations), standard entropies, high-temperature relative enthalpies (includes equations), Gibbs energy functions, enthalpies of formation (includes equations), Gibbs energies of formation (includes equations) and logarithms of the equilibrium constants. Documentation in the introduction explains how the tables are organized and… more

A Continuous Fission Product Separation Process; I. Removal of the Rare Earths (Lanthanum Cerium, Praseodymium, and Neodymium) From a Typical Liquid Bismuth-Uranium Reactor Fuel by Contact with Fused LiCl-KCl Mixtures

Description: Technical report investigating the distribution of rare earth elements between a liquid bismuth-uranium solution and fused KCI-LiCi mixtures. Report warrants further research on the liquid bismuth-uranium-fused salt system due to the benefit of continuous fission removal processes.

Preliminary Plasma Spectrometric Analyses for Selected Elements in some Geothermal Waters from Cerro Prieto, Mexico

Description: Abstract: As part of a cooperative study with the Geologic Division of the U.S. Geological Survey, water samples collected from geothermal power production wells at Cerro Prieto, Mexico, were analyzed for selected elements by d.c. argon plasma emission spectroscopy. Spectral interferences due to the presence of high concentrations of Ca, Si, Na, and K in these waters affected the apparent concentration values obtained. These effects were evaluated and correction techniques were developed and ap… more

Thermodynamic Properties of 65 Elements: Their Oxides, Halides, Carbides and Nitrides

Description: From Introduction: "This Bureau of Mines bulletin was prepared to compile in readily usable form the heat content, heat-of-formation, and free-energy-of-formation data for 65 common elements and their respective oxides, halides, carbides, and nitrides. The bulletin was prepared to encourage the application of thermodynamics in the metallurgical field; consequently, the values have been presented in a simple, readily usable form and several examples of their applications have been shown."

Experimental Transition Probabilities for Spectral Lines of Seventy Elements: Derived from the NBS Tables of Spectral-line Intensities

Description: From introduction: "The goal of the work was to provide lists of the principal lines of the elements generally observed under ordinary conditions in arc spectra, together with their relative intensities on a true scale of relative energy."

A High-Dispersion Spectral Analysis of the Ba II Star HD 204075 (ζ Capricorni)

Description: Report discussing a double differential curve of growth analysis for the Ba II star S Capricorni. Both the sun and Virginis (G9 II-III) were used as comparison stars. The observational material consists of equivalent widths, central depths, and half-widths for 1100 spectral lines measured on direct-intensity tracings of plates obtained by J. L. Greenstein at the coude focus of the 200-in telescope. The plates cover the spectral regions 3880-4825 A and 5100-6720 A at reciprocal dispersions of … more
