Preliminary design of a cryogenic thermoelectric generator.

Description: A cryogenic thermoelectric generator is proposed to increase the efficiency of a vehicle propulsion system that uses liquid nitrogen as its fuel. The proposed design captures some of the heat required for vaporizing or initial heating of the liquid nitrogen to produce electricity. The thermoelectric generator uses pressurized liquid nitrogen as its cold reservoir and ambient air as the high-temperature reservoir to generate power. This study concentrated on the selection of thermoelectric mater… more

Gamma-Ray Detection with Pbo Glass Converters In Mwpc: Electron Conversion Efficiency And Time Resolution

Description: The development of glass tubing converters for efficient gamma-ray detection in multiwire proportional chambers (MWPC) has led to an investigation on the improvement of conductivity on glass surfaces and to an investigation of gas mixtures which will improve on the electron conversion efficiency and electron transit time within the tubes. Efforts to establish uniform electric field lines within small diameter tubes has resulted in an improved H{sub 2} reducing treatment. For a 0.91 mm I.D., 1.1… more

A Comparative Evaluation of Matrix Training Arrangements

Description: A common goal of instructional techniques is to teach skills effectively and efficiently. Matrix training techniques are both effective and efficient as they allow for the emergence of untrained responding to novel stimulus arrangements, a phenomenon known as recombinative generalization. However, it is unclear which type of matrix arrangement best promotes recombinative generalization. The current study compared two common matrix training approaches, an overlapping (OV) design and a non-overla… more

The Flame Photometric Determination of Tributylphosphate

Description: The study of the flame photometric method for determining the concentration of tributylphosphate (TBP) in a hydrocarbon diluent was undertaken because it showed promise of being economically competitive and subject to fewer interferences than the existing methods. The determination of TBP in the hydrocarbon solutions throughout the range 0.01 to 80 per cent TBP may be performed using the flame photometer. The principal conclusions resulting from the study found a that there was higher precision… more

Fueling sustainable development: The energy productivity solution

Description: The booklet describes the mounting policy and business concerns surrounding the supply of energy and argues that the most cost-effective way to address these concerns is through improving energy productivity and adopting existing energy-efficient technologies that pay for themselves in future energy savings. The document supports the role of public policy in encouraging consumers and businesses to capture the benefits of higher energy productivity.

100% Renewable Energy - and Beyond - for Cities

Description: This booklet sketches out the options and the processes that have started to transform urban energy systems. The document promotes carbon neutrality for communities and cities and argues that even the largest cities can make this transition, drawing on renewable energy supplies from within their boundaries, as well as from farther away. In addition to assuring urban energy security, these developments can also stimulate the growth of a very large new green economy sector.

Efficiency pf Multiple Traversal Targets

Description: The efficiency of multiple traversal targets is defined as the probability that a proton dies by making a nuclear collision in the target rather than by hitting the limit of the synchrotron aperture. The efficiencies of Be, Al, Cu, and Pb targets are shown for 15 and 30-Bev protons in the Brooknaven AGS. Beryllium was found to be the most efficient. (M.C.G.)

What Relationship Exists Between the Populations of Church Congregations and Their Maximum Efficiency?

Description: The present study was calculated to determine whether or not a congregation with a good percentage increase in membership from a specific date in 1956 to a corresponding date in 1957 would also experience any percentage increase in attendance of members and visitors at the Sunday morning worship services. Likewise, would such a congregation have a large percentage of its assembly in attendance at its Bible classes and at its midweek services?

Pollution Prevention Act of 1990

Description: The Pollution Prevention Act focused industry, government, and public attention on reducing the amount of pollution through cost-effective changes in production, operation, and raw materials use. Opportunities for source reduction are often not realized because of existing regulations, and the industrial resources required for compliance, focus on treatment and disposal. Source reduction is fundamentally different and more desirable than waste management or pollution control. Pollution prevent… more

Data Envelopment Analysis: Measurement of Educational Efficiency in Texas

Description: The purpose of this study was to examine the efficiency of Texas public school districts through Data Envelopment Analysis. The Data Envelopment Analysis estimation method calculated and assigned efficiency scores to each of the 931 school districts considered in the study. The efficiency scores were utilized in two phases. First, the school district efficiency scores were combined with school district student achievement to evaluate effectiveness with efficiency. A framework was constructed to… more

Possible Use of a Betatron Core on the Cosmotron

Description: Most existing electron synchrotrons use betatron start for initial acceleration of the particles. The subsequent synchrotron acceleration is then performed with a nearly constant radio-frequency. Investigation of the effect of turn-on rate and initial energy spread is made mathematically. Several advantages are seen for such a technique. (D.C.W.)
