Single shoe (right) of tan damask weave cloth and black leather. Shoe designed with pointed toe, the toebox and heel of black leather, the rest of the upper in textured tan cloth. Across instep is wide strap with flaring ends to which is applied an ornate cut/stamped steel simulated buckle. Strap secures with buttons. Modified stacked Louis heel. Stamped inside: The H&S. Pogue Co. / Cincinnati Measurements: length 24cm. Width 8cm. Height 11.5cm. Heel 4cm, 1.5in.

Printed heels
Pair of heeled pumps of tan linen printed with pastel floral design. Designed with pointed toes, almost as D'Orsay pumps, with sides almost cut to platform. Dark tan/taupe/beige triangular straps to ankle strap, which has oval embossed metal "buckle" which hooks into oval loop secured to other side. 2 1/2" high modified boulevard heels covered in same leather as straps. Stamped in both shoes: "Christie / Potter Cincinnati" Handwritten in both shoes: "39-0000G14104 / 1369" Measurements: length 25.5cm. Width 7cm. Height 13.5cm. Heel 5cm (2 1/2") high on axis.
Hat
Hat of black velvet with soft brim and two ostrich pom-poms attached to left side. Hard velour stand decorated with jet surrounds a shirred crown. Retailer's label on inside crown: "Irwin's / Decor / Cincinnati / St. Louis"

Hat in turban style of light green, cobalt, pink and purple wool. Green grosgrain ribbon headband. Lined with avocado green acetate faille.

The cutwork is embellished with black jet beadwork. Louis XV style heels covered in black satin. Stamped inside one shoe in gold, partly illegible: "Kasson's / Knickerbocker / Cincinnati"

Letter from Capt. H. H. Boggess to Capt. H. K. Redway, in Wheeling, West Virginia, informing him of Private B.F. carpenter's furlough to Cincinnati, Ohio. The document details that Carpenter was part of the "F" company, 1st regiment, and was part of the N. Y. Veterans Cavalry. The private's furlough to Cincinnati would last 15 days and the cost of his transportation to Cincinnati was $1.50, an amount which would be docked from his pay upon his return. The letter also states that Private Carpenter would return for duty to Camp Piatt in West Virginia. A note on the lower left side details that the private was charged on payroll for his furlough on February 28, 1865.
