OTEC platform configuration and integration study. Volume I. Systems engineering and integration. Final report

Description: The economic success of an Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) system is highly dependent on a platform which provides adequate support for the power system, accommodates reliably the cold water pipe, and is most cost effective. The results of a study conducted for the Department of Energy to assess six generic types of platforms to determine the most satisfactory platform for severl potential sites are presented. The six platform configurations are ship, circular barge, semi-submersible, Tu… more

Advanced electrooptic components for satellite/submarine optical communications systems

Description: Significant progress was made on identification and acquisition of optical components for an ultrahigh brightness weakly tunable blue-green beam generator. Limited performance validation of key system design concepts was achieved, and significant progress was made in improved optical design for more efficient generation of ultrahigh brightness, tunable blue-green radiation. These results are detailed.

Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) platform configuration and integration. Final report

Description: Studies leading to the development of conceptual designs for two 400 MW Offshore Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) Commercial Plants are summarized. A detailed overview of the study Final Report which was completed in Jun 1978 is presented. The successful deployment of a Commercial OTEC Plant in the near term is dependent upon the optimization of the platform configuration and power plant output level. The optimization procedure is based on both technical and economic factors and is used to eval… more

User's guide to SUBWAR 1. [Kinematically tracks torpedo and target and shows distribution of hits; in LRLTRAN for CDC 7600 computer]

Description: SUBWAR 1, a digital computer program which kinematically tracks the movements of a torpedo and its target and shows the distribution of hits on the target is described. The program is written in LRLTRAN for compilation by CHAT and execution on a CDC 7600. Output is graphical as well as numerical. Torpedo and submarine target characteristics, parameters, modeling, and simulation are briefly outlined, and a line-by-line description of the program's input file is given. Some suggestions are also p… more

Preliminary design of an advanced programmable digital filter network for large passive acoustic ASW systems. [Parallel processor]

Description: The design of an extremely high performance programmable digital filter of novel architecture, the LLL Programmable Digital Filter, is described. The digital filter is a high-performance multiprocessor having general purpose applicability and high programmability; it is extremely cost effective either in a uniprocessor or a multiprocessor configuration. The architecture and instruction set of the individual processor was optimized with regard to the multiple processor configuration. The optimal… more
