A Criterion For Vacuum Sparking Designed to Include Both R. F. and D. C.

Description: An empirical relation is presented which represents a boundary between no vacuum sparking and possible vacuum sparking. Metal electrodes and r.f. or d.c. voltages are used. The criterion fits several orders of surface gradient, voltage, gap, and frequency. Current due to field emission is considered necessary for sparking but in addition, energetic particles are required to initiate a cascade process which increases the field emission currents to the point of sparking. An elementary cascade pro… more

Collision Mechanics and Energy Angle Nomography

Description: The general reaction of interest in nuclear physics is that due to N1 colliding with N2 and producing N3 and N4 with reaction energy Q. It is shown how the energies of N3 and N4 can be obrtained at any angle from a nomograph simply constructed of semicircles.

The Scattering Constant for Doubly Charged Particles in Nuclear Emulsion

Description: "An experiment in which a nuclear emulsion stack of 25 Ilford G-5 emulsion pellicles were exposed to 925-Mev He^4 nuclei is described. The tracks of the He nuclei entering the stack were followed in the stack until they interacted or stopped. From the data the scattering constants for He^4 and He^3 were calculated."

Nuclear Cooperation with Other Countries: A Primer

Description: In order for the United States to engage in civilian nuclear cooperation with other states, it must conclude a framework agreement that meets specific requirements under section 123 of the Atomic Energy Act (AEA). The AEA also provides for exemptions to these requirements, export control licensing procedures, and criteria for terminating cooperation. Congressional review is required for section 123 agreements; the AEA establishes special "fast track" parliamentary procedures by which Congress m… more
