Aerial photography : obtaining a true perspective

Description: Report discussing a demonstration was given within the last few days at the British Museum by Mr. J. W. Gordon, author of "Generalized Linear Perspective" (Constable and Co.), a work describing a newly-worked-out system by which photographs can be made available for the purpose of exactly recording the dimensions of the objects photographed even when the objects themselves are presented foreshortened in the photograph.

Aeroelastic Problems of Airplane Design

Description: The technical memorandum briefly summarizes the growth of interest in aeroelastic phenomena as aircraft speed increased and wing designs changed for faster aircraft. Different types of aircraft vibrations are then introduced, and the mathematical basis for the theory behind them is described. Special attention is given to static oscillations, wing flutter, and the flutter of skin panels. The last section of the memorandum deals with the prevention of flutter by design specifications.

Lame's Wave Functions of the Ellipsoid of Revolution

Description: "Lamé's wave functions result by separation of the wave equation in elliptic coordinates and by integration of the ordinary differential equations thus originating. They are a generalization of Lamé's potential functions which originate in the same manner from the potential equation. Lamé's wave functions are applied for boundary value problems of the wave equation for regions of space bounded by surfaces of a system of confocal ellipsoids and hyperboloids" (p. 1).

Finite Span Wings in Compressible Flow

Description: Equations are developed using the source distribution method for the velocity potential function and pressure on thin wings in steady and unsteady motion. Closed form solutions are given for harmonically oscillating wings of general plan form including the effect of the wing wake. Tail Buffeting

Description: "An approximate theory of buffeting is here presented, based on the assumption of harmonic disturbing forces. Two cases of buffeting are considered: namely, for a tail angle of attack greater and less than the stalling angle, respectively.
