Description: The citizens of Northumberland County agree to a charter allowing another academy of the same name within the same county for the poor. The funding is discussed and the land that was for public use will be used. Petitioners are against the school being built with public funds and believe that the poor should be paying for their school. The collection consists of music for dances, ballads, and minstrel songs, notably juxtaposing songs with related titles, (Young Folks at Home and Old Folks at Home; Are We Almost There? and We Are Almost There). Most selections were published in Boston or New York. This item contains racial slurs and stereotyping.
