Historical Notes on Aerodynamic Research

Description: "It is obviously interesting to know the names of those who were the first contributors to aeronautical science. Therefore, without claiming to give a complete history, I present in this article a summary list of names in chronological order relating to the history of experiments on the resistance of the air and its application to aeronautics" (p. 1).

The Light Airplane

Description: T.M. 311 gave a short outline of modern theoretical aerodynamics as applied to light airplane design. This discussion may have been somewhat obscure to the nontechnical reader. A series of charts or curves should serve to clear up such obscurity as well as to more definitely emphasize those quantities most important for each flight characteristic.

The Light Airplane

Description: This report begins with a review and analysis of the work being done to develop light airplanes in the U.S. and abroad. A technical discussion of the construction and innovations in light airplanes is then presented.

On the Actual Loads on Airplane Landing Gears

Description: This investigation was intended to throw light on a number of problems: 1) obtain a time history of the force acting on the gear wheels during take-off and landing runs; 2) obtain the time history of the direction of this force (magnitude of its three components along the coordinate axes); 3) derive conclusions as to the design load factors. In connection with the latter, of special interest was the solution of such problems as: a) the dynamic loads in the three main landing attitudes; b) the p… more
