Fisheries Habitat Evaluation on Tributaries of the Coeur d`Alene Indian Reservation : 1990 Annual Report.

Description: Ranking criteria were developed to rate 19 tributaries on the Coeur d`Alene Indiana Reservation for potential of habitat enhancement for westslope cutthroat trout, Oncorhynchus clarki lewisi, and bull trout, Salvelinus malma. Cutthroat and bull trout habitat requirements, derived from an extensive literature review of each species, were compared to the physical and biological parameters of each stream observed during an aerial -- helicopter survey. Ten tributaries were selected for further stud… more

Wasco Riparian Buffer Project, Annual Report 2003-2004.

Description: This project implements riparian buffer systems in the Mid-Columbia, addressing limiting factors identified in the Deschutes River Sub-basin Summary, March 2, 2001. This project is providing the technical planning support needed to implement at least 20 riparian buffer system contracts on approximately 800 acres covering an estimated 36 miles of anadromous fish streams. During this second year of implementation, 17 buffer contracts were established on 173,462 ft. of stream (25.9 miles). Acreage… more

Fifteenmile Creek Riparian Buffers Project, Annual Report 2002-2003.

Description: This project implements riparian buffer systems in the Mid-Columbia, addressing limiting factors identified in the Fifteenmile Subbasin Summary, June 30, 2000. The project is providing the technical planning support needed to implement at least 36 riparian buffer system contracts on approximately 872 acres covering an estimated 40 miles of anadromous fish streams over a three year period. During this second year of the project, 11 buffer contracts were implemented on 10.9 miles of stream. Buffe… more

Exhaust Speciation Studies for Aftertreatment Technology Development

Description: Lean NOx reduction shown to be strongly affected by HC reductant composition. Possibility exists to tailor exhaust HC composition by manipulating HC post-injection process. Why is this relevant if lean NOx catalysis ''isn't going to work'' ? Lean NOx (esp. with post-injection of HC) offers unmatched ''passiveness'' NOx adsorber technology will require reductant - potentially introduced the same way

Evaluation of Tektronix (2 gigasample/second) Digital Signal Analyzer DSA 602

Description: The results of evaluating the Tektronix (2 gigasample/second) Digital Analyzer DSA 602 is discussed. Evaluations were done using both the 11A52 and 11A72 amplifier modules. Effective bits tests were run from 2 MHz to 1 GHz. Timing tests were done to verify repeatability of triggering. Baseline data were taken to determine noise levels. Pulse testing was done to determine overdrive recoverability. The stability of the internal calibration was verified. TDR tests were done to determine what refle… more

State of the art of pressurized fluidized bed combustion systems

Description: This report was prepared at the request of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to clarify the development status of the pressurized fluidized bed combustor (PFBC) and to place in perspective the problems which are yet to be solved before commercialization of the concept is practical. This report, in essence, supersedes the interim report published in 1979, Assessment of the State of the Art of Pressurized Fluidized Bed Combustion Systems. A brief overview of the PFBC concept is included citing… more

Screening study on high temperature energy transport systems

Description: The purpose of the study described in this document is to identify the options for transporting thermal energy over long distances. The study deals specifically and exclusively with high temperature (> 400/sup 0/C(752/sup 0/F)) energy for industrial use. Energy transport is seen as a potential solution to: high unit cost of small coal and nuclear steam generators, and opposition to siting of coal or nuclear plants near populated areas. The study is of a preliminary nature but covers many option… more

Analysis of alkali metal boiler for fluidized bed applications

Description: The analytical methods used to determine the operating characteristics of alkali metal boilers coupled specifically to fluidized bed furnaces are detailed. Calculation methods are provided for both natural circulation boilers used with deep beds and horizontal tube, forced circulation boilers used in conjunction with shallow fluidized beds. Typical steady-state operating characteristics for boilers of both types being investigated in conjunction with the ORNL alkali metal topping cycle study ar… more

Venture Capital Investment and Protocol Analysis

Description: This study used protocol analysis to identify key variables in the venture capital investment decision-making process. The study used a fictional business plan which was based on six actual business plans. This fictional business plan was presented to ten venture capitalists who were asked to review it to decide whether to interview the investee. The protocols obtained from these subjects were analyzed to determine patterns within the subjects' review. The sections of the business plan which we… more

Characterization of operating conditions for gas/water heat recovery steam generators

Description: The possible operating points of air/water and helium/water steam generators are parametrically presented. Calculation procedures and a sample computer program listing are provided. Multiple saturated steam conditions are shown to be attainable with the same gas inlet and exit temperatures. Design considerations of heat transfer surface area and pumping requirements are also discussed.

Heat transfer and pressure drop in gas-cooled fluidized-bed combustors for gas turbine systems: analysis and application to design

Description: Information is presented concerning the effects of design parameters for fluidized bed air heaters for gas turbines on the cost-related characteristics of the inbed heat exchanger. An analysis of the pressure drop/heat transfer relations is described and the results and implications for design are presented. According to these results, the cost of the heater for a pressurized, closed-cycle turbine system is likely to exceed that of an open-cycle system in which the compressor discharge pressure… more
