Analytical Methods for Malachite Green : Completion Report : Malachite Green Analysis in Water.

Description: Malachite green is a known teratogen and therefore its use is limited to nonfood fish under an Investigational New Animal Drug permit (INAD), number 2573. Although a charcoal adsorption column was developed to remove malachite green from hatchery water, INAD compliance requires that the malachite green residue concentrations in any effluent from hatcheries using the chemical be quantified. Catalytic photooxidation of pentachlorophenol using semiconductor nanoclusters

Description: Pentachlorophenol (PCP) is a toxic chlorinated aromatic molecule widely used as fungicide, a bactericide and a wood preservation, and thus ubiquitous in the environment. Description: The mitochondrial genomes of two isolates of the wheat pathogen Mycosphaerella graminicola were sequenced completely and compared to identify polymorphic regions. Mechanisms of radiation-induced neoplastic cell transformation

Mikkelson sweep/spike chisel plow shovel

Description: Profitability comparisons are reported between the Mikkelson Sweep/Spike Chisel Plow Shovel standard sweeps. This evaluation covers the first year of testing of the new Sweep/Spike design. The data are not averaged over treatments due to significant interaction between treatments and environmental factors. The cost of fuel, fall and spring, to perform the various treatments ranged from $1.27 to $3.36 per acre. Use of the sweep/spike shovel always reduced total fuel cost. Savings varied from $0.… more

Research to Identify Effective Antifungal Agents, 1990 Annual Report.

Description: The objectives of the present contract study were to select and evaluate up to 10 candidate fungicides. Evaluations of Goal 1 involve laboratory studies on efficacy of candidate compounds on cultured Saprolegniales, and on eggs of rainbow trout and chinook salmon that were previously infected with the fungus. The main objective this year of Goal 2 was to determine the degree of fungal infection in untreated, control fish to establish the extent of the problem.

Role of protein synthesis in the repair of sublethal x-ray damage in a mutant Chinese hamster ovary cell line

Description: A temperature-sensitive mutant for protein synthesis, CHO-TSH1, has been compared to the wild-type cell, CHO-sC1, in single- and split-radiation-dose schemes. When the exponentially growing TS mutant and the wild-type cells were treated at 40/sub 0/C for up to 2 hrs prior to graded doses of x rays, the survival curves were identical and were the same as those obtained without heat treatment.
