Water Science and Technology Board annual report 1987

Description: In 1982, the National Research Council chose to recognize the importance of water resource issues by establishing the Water Science and Technology Board (WSTB). During the five years since its first meeting in November 1982, the WSTB has grown and matured. The WSTB has met 14 times to provide guidance and plan activities. Prediction methodology for contaminant transport from rangeland watersheds

Description: Weather on arid and semiarid lands can be extremely variable. Runoff is generally emphermeral, and high intensity, short-duration rainfall events are the major stimulus for runoff events. Transport of sediment and associated contaminants occurs with these infrequent events. A portable CW/FM-CW Doppler radar for local investigation of severe storms

Description: During the 1987 spring storm season we used a portable 1-W X-band CW Doppler radar to probe a tornado, a funnel cloud, and a wall cloud in Oklahoma and Texas. This same device was used during the spring storm season in 1988 to probe a wall cloud in Texas. The radar was battery powered and highly portable, and thus convenient to deploy from our chase vehicle.
