Discharge Physics of High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering

Description: High power impulse magnetron sputtering (HIPIMS) is pulsed sputtering where the peak power exceeds the time-averaged power by typically two orders of magnitude. The peak power density, averaged over the target area, can reach or exceed 107 W/m2, leading to plasma conditions that make ionization of the sputtered atoms very likely. Recent Developments in High-Harmonic Fast Wave Physics in NSTX

Description: Understanding the interaction between ion cyclotron range of frequency (ICRF) fast waves and the fast-ions created by neutral beam injection (NBI) is critical for future devices such as ITER, which rely on a combination ICRF and NBI. Pixel detectors in 3D technologies for high energy physics

Free-Space optical interconnects for cable-less readout in particle physics detectors

A Regularized Approach for Solving Magnetic Differential Equations and a Revised Iterative Equilibrium Algorithm

Analyzing Ever Growing Datasets in PHENIX

Description: After 10 years of running, the PHENIX experiment has by now accumulated more than 700 TB of reconstructed data which are directly used for analysis. Study of the neutron damage on electronics at the National Ignition Facility

Description: The NIF environment is very complex leading to a large and non trivial radiation background. A shield surrounding the electronics is required to lower the neutron background to less than 1e7 n/cm{sup 2}. Moving electronics to behind the 6 foot-thick target bay wall is the best shield.

Low-mass fission detector for the fission neutron spectrum measurement

Observation of single top-quark production with the CDF II experiment

Description: We present the observation of electroweak single top-quark production using up to 3.2 fb{sup -1} of data collected by the CDF experiment. A low-threshold analysis of CDMS shallow-site data
