Charm physics at CDF II

Description: The CDF II detector has the capability of triggering on displaced tracks. Because of this ability, CDF II has accrued large samples of charged meson decays to fully hadronic final states in 64 pb{sup -1} of p{bar p} collision data gathered at {radical}s = 1.96 TeV. Using initial Run II data samples, the production cross sections for J/{psi}, D{sup 0}, D{sup +}, D*{sup +} and D{sub s}{sup +} mesons have been measured. A Radiofrequency Separator For High-Energy Particles

Description: This report is an outgrowth of the MURA Users' Conference of June 1959. At that conference the group on beam separators discussed the problem of whether particle separation could be achieved at the machine energies under consideration. Study of the neutron damage on electronics at the National Ignition Facility

Description: The NIF environment is very complex leading to a large and non trivial radiation background. A shield surrounding the electronics is required to lower the neutron background to less than 1e7 n/cm{sup 2}. Moving electronics to behind the 6 foot-thick target bay wall is the best shield.

Measurement of Asymmetric Optical Pumping of Ions Accelerating in a Magnetic-field Gradient

Description: We report observations of asymmetric optical pumping of argon ions accelerating in a magnetic field gradient. The signature is a difference in the laser-induced-fluorescence (LIF) emission amplitude from a pair of Zeeman-split states. A model that reproduces the dependence of the asymmetry on magnetic-field and ion-velocity gradients is described. Observation of amplification of a 1ps pulse by SRS of a 1 ns pulse in a plasma with conditions relevant to pulse compression

Description: The compression of a laser pulse by amplification of an ultra short pulse beam which seeds the stimulated Raman scatter of the first beam has been long been discussed in the context of solid and gas media. HADES, A Code for Simulating a Variety of Radiographic Techniques

Description: It is often useful to simulate radiographic images in order to optimize imaging trade-offs and to test tomographic techniques. The equivalence principle of quantum mechanics: Uniqueness theorem

Description: Recently the authors showed that the postulated diffeomorphic equivalence of states implies quantum mechanics. This approach takes the canonical variables to be dependent by the relation p = {partial_derivative}{sub q}S{sub 0} and exploits a basic GL(2,C)-symmetry which underlies the canonical formalism. Neutron spectra may be obtained by neutron double scatter (DSNS), or the spontaneous fission associated particle (AP) technique. Manipulation of high-current pulses for heavy-ion fusion

Description: For efficient induction-driven heavy-ion fusion, the current profile along a pulse must be modified in a non-selfsimilar manner between the accelerator and the target.
