Photon physics with PHENIX

Description: In this Paper the author discusses briefly the physics motivation for extending measurements of particle production with high granularity and particle id capabilities to neutrals in PHENIX. He then discusses the technique of direct photon measurement in the presence of copious background photons from {pi}{sup o} decays. High Energy Physics

Description: Hadron collider studies will focus on: (i) the search for the top quark with the newly installed D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider, (ii) the upgrade of the D0 detector to match the new main injector luminosity and (iii) R&D on silicon microstrip tracking devices for the SSC. B physics at the tevatron

Description: Precision B-physics results from the CDF and D0 Collaborations based on data collected during the Tevatron 1992-96 run are presented. In particular we discuss the measurement of the B{sub s} meson lifetime, B{sub c} meson observation, and B{sup 0} - {anti B}{sup 0} mixing results obtained using time-evolution analyses. Prospects for the next Tevatron run, starting in 1999, are also reported.

Physics at BNL mini-kaon

Description: The BNL AGS is currently producing about 3{mu}A of 24 GeV protons with {approximately} 40% duty factor in slow extracted beam running. Proposals for further upgrading the accelerator are under discussion. These can produce intensities of 5.4-20{mu}A, with duty factors ranging up to nearly 100%. Such improvements provide a range of new opportunities for K and other experiments. I discuss a few such opportunities.

The physics of fast Z pinches

Description: The spectacular progress made during the last few years in reaching high energy densities in fast implosions of annular current sheaths (fast Z pinches) opens new possibilities for a broad spectrum of experiments, from x-ray generation to controlled thermonuclear fusion and astrophysics.
