Butterfly lovers

Description: Recording of John Levack Drever's Butterfly Lovers. The title represents a traditional Chinese story presented in Cantonese. Sonic material generated from the grain (i.e. internal rhythm and timbre) of the recording of Wing Man Kwok's voice and two passages for flute. The work can be experienced on a phenomenological level with its emphasis on the sonic; equally and mutually it can be approached by the listener from a programmatic perspective (i.e. cinema for the ears).

Dreampaths, A Walk Through Ezra Pound's Canto 90

Description: Recording of JoAnn Kuchera-Morin's A Walk Through Ezra Pound's Canto 90. This is a single movement work for soprano solo, two sopranos, two altos, and computer generated tape. In the text of the Canto, Pound incorporates Latin, English, Chinese and Greek, in order to describe the visual imagery of the poem which begins with a quote from Richard of St Victor. Description: Three silent amateur film segments of Hong Kong and Japan, filmed by Dennis Askey. Identifiable locations include Tai Po Kau Park in Hong Kong, and the Fujita Grill and Tea Room in Japan. The film stock was produced in 1960 and processed in May of 1961.

Kung Fu

Description: Recording of Phil Archer's Kung Fu. This piece is composed entirely of source sounds taken from Chinese Kung Fu films and adopts the values and characteristics associated with these films. The composer's goal while writing this work was, while incorporating technique and valves commonly associated with electroacoustic music, to avoid or subvert obvious clichés of the genre.
