Investigation of Membrane Stack Resistance Increase With a Natural Brackish Water

Description: From Introduction: "An investigation was undertaken by the Bureau of Reclamation to identify the cause of causes of this problem with a particular brackish water. The resistance increase of is of great concern principally because of the increase in power consumption that ultimately contributes to a higher cost for product water. Reports show that membrane stack resistance has increased as much as 200 percent over period of several days."

Large Reverse Osmosis System Technology and Module Development

Description: From Introduction: "This is the final report on a program of reverse osmosis research conducted for the Office of Saline Water, U.S. Department of the Interior, under Contract 14-01-0001-929. The purpose of the program was the development of larger spiral-wound reverse osmosis modules for economical application in large reverse osmosis systems."

The Mg-MgCl2 System — A Chronopotentiometric Study

Description: The mode of dissolution of magnesium in molten magnesium chloride contacted with Mg-Pb alloys was studied at 750°C using anodic chronopotentiometry. An inert tantalum anode was used to determine relative amounts of magnesium dissolved in its chloride as a function of magnesium activity in the alloy. According to the law of mass action a linear dependence of magnesium solubility on a Mg indicates Mg2Cl2 as the reaction product and a parabolic dependence indicates MgCl. It was found that the amou… more

Operation of Reverse Osmosis Pilot Plants

Description: From Introduction: "This report includes the sixth segment of a continuing effort begun early in 1963. Purpose of the work is the scale-up of reverse osmosis from a laboratory curiosity to an economical system for the production of potable water from salty feeds."

Oscillator Strengths and Transition Probabilities fro 3288 Lines of Fe I

Description: Report of a homogeneous set of intensity-related data calculated for 3288 spectral lines of Fe I in the region from 2100 to 9900 angstroms. The quantities tabulated in the present monograph include log (g__), log (gf), gf,f,gA, and A. Since recent investigations do not support excitations corrections in the case of Fe I and certain other spectra, the present tabulation incorporates a removal of that normalization function. This recalculation affects the values for all lines whose upper energy l… more

Playa Surface Morphology: Miscellaneous Investigations

Description: Abstract: Numerous environmental processes affect the development and stability of playa (lakebed) surfaces. Of special significance are hydrologic processes that control the amount and flow of both surface and ground water, and climatic variations which in turn influence the hydrology. This report, in six parts, examines some aspects of the playa surface environment. Chapter 1 is an introduction. Chapter 2 describes microrelief changes that developed at Harper Playa, California, following floo… more
