1. K+ Charge Exchange - Search For K+ Charge Exchange

Description: An experiment was designed utilizing a charge-exchange reaction to study the decay and interactions of the neutral K mesons produced. The experiment produced no events that could be interpreted as either the decay or interaction of neutral K mesons. The nature of the experiment and the possible explanations of this unexpected result are presented in this paper.

Action and Emission Spectra of the Luminescence of Green PlantMaterials

Description: The action and emission spectra of the delayed light emission from Chlorella, Nostoc, and spinach chloroplasts have been measured. The action spectra for Chlorella and for spinach chloroplasts are quite similar to the absorption spectra of these materials. The action spectrum for Nostoc, on the other hand, shows a relatively low activity for chlorophyll and carotenoids and a high activity for phycocyanin. Description: The experimentally determined exponential dependence of spontaneous fission rate on Z{sup 2}/A has been used to derive an expression for the dependence of the fission activation energy on Z{sup 2}/A. This expression has been used to calculate the activation energy for slow neutron induced fission and photofission. The correlation with the experimental data on these types of fission seems to be quite good.

Description: Report presenting a flight investigation over a range of Mach numbers to determine the aerodynamic characteristics at low lift of a rocket model of an airplane with a 52.5 degree delta wing of aspect ratio 3.08 and NACA 65A003 airfoil sections in the streamwise direction and a low, swept horizontal tail. Results regarding the longitudinal trim, lift, drag, longitudinal static stability, damping in pitch, and directional static stability are provided.

Aerodynamic study of a wing-fuselage combination employing a wing swept back 63 degrees : effect of sideslip on aerodynamic characteristics at a Mach number of 1.4 with the wing twisted and cambered

Description: Report presenting the longitudinal and lateral characteristics of a wing-fuselage combination with a wing with the leading edge swept back 63 degrees and cambered and twisted for a uniform load at lift coefficient 0.25 and Mach number 1.5. The investigation occurred over a range of sideslip angles. The results indicated that the longitudinal characteristics were essentially unaffected by Reynolds number or the sideslip angles investigated.

Description: Disposal of liquid radioactive wastes to ground requires knowledge of the area ground-water hydrology. Information is desired on direction and velocity of ground-water flow. Direction of flow can be determined from maps showing contours on the water table surface, such contours being derived from well water elevations. Ground-water velocity is more difficult to ascertain.

Alternative actions on the K stack problem

Description: On June 6, 1958, KW Operations had HCR Channel No. 16 borescoped to determine why this rod could not be inserted on May 3. Observations revealed 3X balls in the channel and horizontal separation between graphite blocks ranging from 1/2 inch to 2 1/4 inch.
