Geohydrology of the Meadowbrook Artificial-Recharge Site at East Meadow, Nassau County, New York

Description: Purpose and scope: The Meadowbrook artificial-recharge project, a cooperative effort between the U.S. Geological Survey and the Nassau County Department of Public Works (NCDPW) since 1975, is intended to demonstrate the feasibility of using reclaimed wastewater to replenish and improve the quality of Long Island's ground water. This report presents the results of geologic, hydrologic, and hydrochemical studies that were done at the Meadowbrook artificial-recharge site to define conditions preva… more

Geology of the "20-Foot" Clay and Gardiners Clay in Southern Nassau and Southwestern Suffolk Counties, Long Island, New York

Description: Purpose and scope: This report depicts in detail the areal extent, altitude, thickness, and lithology of the "20-foot" clay and Gardiners Clay (the two thickest and most extensive near-surface confining layers in the area) and redefines the surface of the geologic units that directly underlie these clay units at various locations--the Matawan Group-Magothy Formation, undifferentiated, the Monmouth Group, and the Jameco Gravel.

Ground-Water Contamination at Wurtsmith Air Force Base, Michigan

Description: From introduction: The U.S. Geological Survey, at the request of the U.S. Air Force, began an investigation of geologic and hydrologic conditions at Wurtsmith Air Force Base in September 1979. The investigation was prompted by the discovery that an underground storage tank containing trichloroethylene (TCE) had leaked, contaminating Base water-supply wells. Subsequent information suggested that the trichloroethylene had moved off-Base.

Ground Water in Carbonate Rocks and Regolith in the Fairview Area, Tennessee

Description: From abstract: Fourteen test wells drilled in the Fairview area, Tennessee, produce from 3 to 100 gallons per minute and have an average yield of 32 gallons per minute; yields were measured while blowing water from the wells with compressed air. In comparison, the average yield of 134 supply wells reported by drillers is 13 gallons per minute. Specific capacities for three of the test wells ranged from 0.3 to 0.6 gallons per minute per foot of drawdown after 8 hours of pumping at 20 to 47 gallo… more

Ground-Water Potential of the Leadville Limestone on the White River Uplift in Garfield and Rio Blanco Counties, Colorado

Description: Purpose and scope: This report describes a preliminary reconnaissance of the water-bearing properties of the Mississippian Leadville Limestone in the western part of the White River Uplift (synonymous with the White River Plateau). The purpose of this preliminary investigation is to determine areas of the Leadville Limestone suitable for exploratory drilling and testing at relatively shallow depths to confirm the quality of water in storage.
