Interpretation of boundary-layer pressure-rake data in flow with a detached shock

Description: From Summary: "A procedure is presented for determining boundary-layer quantities from pressure-rake data, which include the combined effects of viscous and shock losses. The problem is analyzed using schileren photographs of the shock configuration, the continuity of mass relationship, and the characteristic of the turbulent boundary layer that its outer edge is defined by a rapid change in slope in the Mach number profiles in the vicinity of the edge."

Effect of an End Plate on the Aerodynamic Characteristics of a 20.55 Degree Sweptback Wing with an Aspect Ratio of 2.67 and a Taper Ratio of 0.5.: Transonic-Bump Method

Description: "An investigation by the transonic-bump method conducted in the Langley high-speed 7- by 10-foot tunnel to determine the effect of an end plate on the aerodynamic characteristics of a 20.55 degree sweptback wing with an aspect ratio of 2.67 and a taper ratio of 0.5 indicated that the end plate affected the aerodynamic characteristics of the wing at transonic Mach numbers in the same manner as has been observed for swept and unswept wings at low speeds" (p. 1).

Performance of Three High-Recovery-Factor Thermocouple Probes for Room-Temperature Operation

Description: "Thermocouple probes have been designed to measure with small error the total temperature of gas moving at high velocities. Two major designed are presented: one is applicable to the construction of rakes and the other, of which there are two variations, can be used where exceptional accuracy is desired. The probes were calibrated in two jets; one jet exhausted into the atmosphere and the other into a pressure-controlled receiver" (p. 1).

The External-Shock Drag of Supersonic Inlets Having Subsonic Entrance Flow

Description: Memorandum presenting a determination of the external-shock drags of supersonic inlets with circular cross sections from shadow photographs at a Mach number of 2.70 for a low-external-compression and a high-external-compression inlet. The calculated mass flow for both types of inlets showed reasonably good agreement with the measured values. Results as determined by the characteristics method and the approximate method are provided.

Lift and moment characteristics at subsonic Mach numbers of four 10-percent-thick airfoil sections of varying trailing-edge thickness

Description: Report presenting the results of a wind-tunnel investigation of the lift and moment characteristics of four 10-percent-thick circular-arc airfoil sections. Increases in the trailing-edge thickness were found to result in increases in maximum lift coefficient and lift-curve slope at all Mach numbers as well as increases in lift-divergence Mach number at all lift coefficients.

Neutron Energy Distributions Inside the Fast Reactor

Description: This technical report presents results of nuclear plate work carried out to determine the neutron energy distribution inside the Los Alamos fast reactor. Most of the distributions which were investigated are valid over the energy region from 0.4 to 6 Mev. The results show that at the center of the reactor pot about 65% of the neutrons are located below 1 Mev in a rather narrow energy region which has a maximum in the neighborhood of 0.5 to 0.6 Mev.
