Daily Thermal Predictions of the AGR-1 Experiment with Gas Gaps Varying with Time

Description: A new daily as-run thermal analysis was performed at the Idaho National Laboratory on the Advanced Gas Reactor (AGR) test experiment number one at the Advanced Test Reactor (ATR). This thermal analysis incorporates gas gaps changing with time during the irradiation experiment. The purpose of this analysis was to calculate the daily average temperatures of each compact to compare with experimental results. Post irradiation examination (PIE) measurements of the graphite holder and fuel compacts s… more

Description: From Introduction: "The present report is based on 10 weeks of field work from mid-November 1940 until late January 1941, and 4 days in May 1941. An area of 5 1/2 square miles in and about Del Puerto Canyon was mapped on a scale of 600 feet to 1 inch, and two small areas in the vicinity of the Adobe Canyon and Black Bart chromite mines were mapped on a scale of 200 feet to 1 inch."

I{sub DDQ} testing for ultimate low power design verification and defect detection

Description: I{sub DDQ} testing is mandatory to ensure that low power CMOS ICs meet their design intent. I{sub DDQ} testing is both a design verifier for low quiescent current and a sensitive production test for defects. Quiescent power reduction is particularly important for products such as cardiac pacemakers, laptop computers, and cellular telephones.

Defect classes - an overdue paradigm for CMOS IC testing

Description: The IC test industry has struggled for more than 30 years to establish a test approach that would guarantee a low defect level to the customer. We propose a comprehensive strategy for testing CMOS ICs that uses defect classes based on measured defect electrical properties. Defect classes differ from traditional fault models. Our defect class approach requires that the test strategy match the defect electrical properties, while fault models require that IC defects match the fault definition. We … more

Measurements have been made of exclusive e/sup +/e/sup -/e/sup +/e/sup -/, e/sup +/e/sup -/..gamma gamma.. and ..gamma gamma gamma gamma.. final states with all particles above 50 milliradians with respect to the e/sup +/e/sup -/ beam line. These measurements represent a significant increase in statistics over previous measurements. All measurements agree well with theoretical predictions. 5 refs., … more

Triterpenoid biosynthesis in Euphorbia lathyris latex

Description: The structures of triterpenols, not previously been known, from Euphorbia lathyris latex are reported. A method for quantifying very small amounts of these compounds was developed. Concerning the biochemistry of the latex, no exogenous cofactors were required for the biosynthesis and the addition of compounds such as NADPAH and ATP do not stimulate the biosynthesis. The addition of DTE or a similar anti-oxidant was found to help reduce the oxidation of the latex, thus increasing the length of t… more

Mobility of {sup 129}I in buried waste

Description: To quantify the potential for {sup 129}I to migrate from buried waste at the Savannah River Plant (SRP) burial ground, a four year study was made. Spent berl saddles containing 68.7 mCi of {sup 129}I from separations process air filters were buried in a 10 ft. {times} 10 ft. {times} 12 ft. deep lysimeter exposed to normal weather conditions at the burial ground. During the four year study leaching and migration released 48.5 nCi of {sup 129}I from the 68.7 mCi buried in the lysimeter. This repr… more

Automated real-time testing (ARTT) for embedded control systems (ECS).

Description: Developing real-time automated test systems for embedded control systems has been a real problem. Some engineers and scientists have used customized software and hardware as a solution, which can be very expensive and time consuming to develop. We have discovered how to integrate a suite of commercially available off-the-shelf software tools and hardware to develop a scalable test platform that is capable of performing complete black-box testing for a dual-channel real-time Embedded-PLC-based c… more

A study of the inhibition of pitting of aluminum by chromate

Description: The location of chromate activity during the pitting corrosion of aluminum has been studied. Scanning vibrating probe technique monitored the current densities above cathodic and anodic sites and SIMS was used to determine the location of chromium reduction products. Products deposited preferentially on cathodes but chromates dramatically inhibited the anodic pitting processes. 8 refs., 3 figs.

Characterization of ionizing radiation damage in DNA. Final report, February 1, 1977--September 30, 1977. [Gamma radiation, fast neutrons, uv radiation]

Description: An experimental method for the measurement of covalent DNA-protein cross-links in bacteriophage T7 based on phenol-water countercurrent distribution has been developed and a statistical model for quantitative interpretation of these measurements has been devised. It has been found that DNA-protein cross links accumulate linearly with dose in response to exposure to /sup 60/Co gamma radiation at a rate .05 to .20 times the rate of accumulation of double strand breaks if phage are exposed in high… more
