Preliminary Report on Uranium Deposits in the Wind River Basin, Wyoming

Description: Abstract: Uranium was discovered in the Gas Hills of the Wind River Basin by Mr. Nail E. McNeice of Riverton, Wyoming while he was prospecting with a Geiger counter in September 1953. Field parties of the Atomic Energy Commission started work in the area in October 1953.

Airborne Radiometric Survey of the East Flank of the Big Horn Mountains, Wyoming and Montana

Description: Abstract: An airborne radiometric survey of parts of the east flank of the Big Horn Mountains was begun on June 23, and completed on August 27, 1952. An area of approximately 250 square miles was covered, and only two anomalies were found in the entire area. Flight lines were arranged in accordance with the geology of the area, particular attention being given to formations the stratigraphic equivalents of which are known to be uranium bearing in other areas. USAEC Airborne Radiometric Reconnaissance in South Dakota and Wyoming, 1952 to 1955

Description: From introduction: This is one of a series of three reports on airborne radioactivity surveys in the United States. The reports contain the 185 airborne anomaly maps issued by the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission as a result of the AEC's aerial surveying program conducted from March 1952 to June 1956; two ground reconnaissance maps of Utah also are included. Most of the reconnaissance was done in the western United States.

Description: Abstract: Preliminary reconnaissance for uranium in the Green River Basin and the Rock Springs Uplift revealed anomalous radioactivity northwest of Oregon Buttes in the Tipton tongue of the Green River formation and in the Cathedral Bluffs tongue of the Wasatch formation, and in the Tipton tongue in Red Creek Basin.
