Production and Briquetting of Carbonized Lignite

Description: From Introduction: "The Bureau of Mines since its establishment has always taken an active interest in the utilization of lignite and in the development of the lignite deposits of the United States. Extensive lignite fields occur in the west central States, notably in North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and Texas; there are smaller areas in several other Sates, some of which are widely separated."

Longwall Gate Road Stability in a Steeply Pitching Thick Coal Seam with a Weak Roof

Description: The U.S. Bureau of Mines (USBM) conducted ground pressure analysis of a wide abutment-type chain pillar in a two-entry gate road of a Western U.S. coal mine with an extremely weak immediate roof. About 15 m of fragile, low-strength mudstone lies between the seam and the lowest competent roof member. Three- and two-entry gate road designs with several pillar sizes and various secondary support systems have been employed to improve tailgate-entry stability, with varying results. This report discu… more

Uranium Deposits of the Carlile Quadrangle, Crook County, Wyoming

Description: From abstract: The uranium deposits in the Carlile quadrangle, southwestern Crook County, Wyo., are in relatively flat-lying sandstone beds in the lower part of the Inyan Kara group of Early Cretaceous age. The Carlile mine has the largest deposit in the quadrangle; the ore minerals are carnotite and tyuyamunite associated with carbonaceous material in a sandstone lens.

Geology and Mineral Deposits of the Carlile Quadrangle, Crook County, Wyoming

Description: From introduction: Geologic mapping of the Carlile quadrangle, which includes one of several uranium-producing areas in northeastern Wyoming, was undertaken to provide a detailed geologic map that could be used as an aid to further exploration for uranium deposits; to study in detail the known uranium deposits to determine whether or not there are any relations among structure, stratigraphy, lithology, and uranium deposits; and to outline, insofar as possible, areas favorable for more detailed … more

Reconnaissance for Uraniferous Rocks in Northwestern Colorado, Southwestern Wyoming, and Northeastern Utah

Description: The following report covers a reconnaissance for new discoveries of radioactive lignite deposits in the Green River Basin and Uinta Basin of Wyoming and Utah where similar discoveries to previous studies in North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming were made. Additionally, there were new prospects examined, as well as reconnaissance for uranium deposits.
