Modifications to Filling and Emptying System of Lock No. 1, Mississippi River, Minneapolis, Minnesota =: Hydraulic Model Investigation

Description: From abstract: The existing locks at Locks and Dam No. 1 were constructed between 1929 and 1932. Problems have been experienced with accumulation of ice and debris at the intakes, air entrapment in the culverts of the filling and emptying system, excessive turbulence in the lock chamber during filling, and hazardous conditions downstream from the locks during emptying operations.

Filling and Emptying Systems, Low-Lift Locks, Arkansas River Project: Hydraulic Model Investigation

Description: Results of a hydraulic model investigation based on locks in the Arkansas River before the construction of additional locks. "Model studies of the filling and emptying system proposed for use at the low-lift locks in the Arkansas project were conducted to confirm the adequacy of the original design hydraulic system, and to develop, if needed, improvements in the system" (p. 2).

A Field Test of Selected Insects and Pathogens for Control of Waterhyacinths, Report 1: Preliminary Results for the 1975-76 Season

Description: "During the growing season of 1975, a field experiment was initiated on Lake Concordia, Louisiana, to test the potential effectiveness of selected organisms as control agents against waterhyacinths, Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms. [...] This report describes the experiment, presents the collected data, and summarizes the observations. Statistical analyses and interpretation of the data are also presented" (abstract).

Earthquake Resistance of Earth and Rock-Fill Dams, Report 2: Analysis of Response of Rifle Gap Dam to Project Rulison Underground Nuclear Detonation

Description: Summary: The motion of Rifle Gap Dam was measured in September 1969 during the Project RULISON underground nuclear explosion. The observed response was then compared with the response computed in a mathematical model. Observed and computed responses were similar. From this study it appears that the mathematical models used are applicable to the design and analysis of soil structures, at least for ground motion intensities comparable to those observed at Rifle Gap Dam. (p. xi).
