#85-Classical Model of a Light Source

Description: Using classical concepts, the author establishes a model of a luminescence atom or molecule.

Experiments on the Corrosion of Light Metals by Corrosive Waters

Description: The purpose of this work was to find testing procedures which would enable one to judge the behavior of aluminum and its alloys towards tap-water by means of laboratory experiments.
Date: unknown
Creator: Mielki, Werner & Popper, Karl R. (Karl Raimund), 1902-1994

The Motion of Particles Suspended in Liquids at Rest, According to the Kinetic Theory of Heat

Description: It will be shown in this paper that according to the kinetic theory of heat, particles visible under the microscope, when compounded in liquids, will undergo motions as a result of the thermal motion of the molecules, and that these motions will be of ample amplitude that they can easily be detected by means of a microscope.

Creator: Einstein, Albert, 1879-1955

Results Obtained in the Study of Metallic Diffusion by the Multilayer Method

Description: Thermomagnetic methods are applied to multilayer aggregates, alternating bounded layers of two solid solutions, which affords a sensitive means of following the programs of homogenization by means of successive changes in the magnetization-temperature curve.
Date: unknown
Creator: Chevenard, Pierre & Wache, Xavier

Study of the Properties of Second Sound

Description: Experiments with second sound have revealed its extraordinarily high stability. In order to achieve even higher amplitudes of oscillation, an apparatus was prepared as illustrated in Figure 1.

New Procedures for the Study of Metallic Diffusion

Description: The study of metallic diffusion in the solid state is a matter of determining the concentration of a solid solution as a function of time and temperature.
Date: unknown
Creator: Chevenard, Pierre & Pertevin, Albert

The Reducibility of Beryllium Oxide

Description: Earlier articles by the author demonstrate that beryllium oxide can be reduced in other ways than previously known. Using a combination of alkaline earth metals, temperature or pressure, the reduction of bellyillium oxide achieves reduction.

The Separation of Gases by Adsorption on Charcoal

Description: In connection with experiments on the adsorption of noble gases, it is shown that it is possible, by making a few measurements, to determine the conditions under which gases and vapors can be quantitatively separated by adsorption on active charcoal, followed by desorption.
Date: unknown

Diffusion in Solid Metals and its Relationship to Other Properties

Description: The authors investigations of diffusion lead having been more or less concluded, it seemed desirable that similar series of tests be carried out on other metals. This paper will describe experiments on the diffusion of cadmium, indium, tin antimony and copper into silver.

Counting Tubes Containing Added Vapor

Description: Oscillograms are used to show the time variation of the discharge in ordinary (air or argon-filled) counting tubes, and to show the decisive effect of small admixtures of other gases on the discharge. Various vapors are investigated for use in counting tubes. Hints for the construction of counting tubes are given; the nature and cause of the temperature effect in counting tubes is discussed briefly.

A Spectroscopic Study of Ions in the Positive Column of the Glow Discharge

Description: Previous observations by the authors on the radiation emitted by argon ions in the positive column of the glow discharge at high current have been extended to the radiation of neon ions. As the discharge current is increased, the difference between the energy of the atoms and the ions decreases, the velocity distribution function of the ions is markedly asymmetrical, there being a preferred direction of motion paralled to the direction of the electric field

A Spectroscopic Investigation of the Motion of Ions in Plasma. I

Description: An experimental study has been made of the displacement of the lines of ionized argon in the plasma of the positive column. It has been verified that this displacement is a Doppler broadening due to the translational motion of the ions in the direction of the field.

The Refraction of Neutrons

Description: Formulas are derived for determining the refractive index of ordinary crystals and magnetized substances (ferromagnetic and paramagnetic) for slow neutrons.

Spectroscopic Investigation of the Motion of Ions in a Plasma : Part II

Description: Using a Fabry-Feret interferometer, the spectral line profiles are studied for both ions and neutral atoms of argon in their dependence on the strength of the discharge current and the gas pressure.
Date: unknown

Study of Industrial Apparatus for Separation of Air

Description: An attempt is made to investigate the principles of a general classification of the existing apparatus, which could facilitate a rational choice of a meet appropriate system and of the best conditions of work.
