Advanced Fuel Cell Development Progress Report: January-March 1982

Description: Quarterly report discussing fuel cell research and development work at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL). This report describes efforts directed toward (1) evaluating the dissolution of NiO cathodes in molten carbonate fuel cells and (2) seeking alternative cathode materials. Solubility data were taken for NiO in a cathode environment, and previously operated cells were examined for nickel transfer. A literature search was made for prospective alternative cathode materials, and synthesis of new… more

Compatibility of Technologies with Regulations in the Waste Management of H-3, I-129, C-14, and Kr-85: Part 1, Initial Information Base

Description: This report summarizes the information base that was collected and reviewed in preparation for carrying out an analysis of the compatibility with regulations of waste management technologies for disposal of Hydrogen-3, Iodine-129, Carbon-14, and Krypton-85. Based on the review of this literature, summaries are presented here of waste-form characteristics, packaging, transportation, and disposal methods. Also discussed are regulations that might apply to all operations involved in disposal of th… more

Computations of Turbulent Recirculating Flows with Fully Coupled Solution of Momentum and Continuity Equations

Description: A fully coupled solution algorithm for pressure-linked fluid flow equations earlier found to be rapidly convergent in laminar flows has been extended to calculate turbulent flows. The governing mean flow equations are solved in conjunction with a two-equation (k - epsilon) turbulence model. A number of two-dimensional recirculating flows have been computed and it is shown that the calculation procedure is rapidly convergent in all the cases. The calculations have been compared with published ex… more

Evaluation of the San Dieguito, San Elijo, and San Pasqual Hydrologic Subareas for Reclaimed Water Use, San Diego County, California

Description: From purpose and scope: The purpose of this study was to update hydrologic data and refine understanding of the hydrologic system within the San Dieguito, San Elijo, and San Pasqual hydrologic subareas in San Diego County, Calif., and to evaluate the suitability of these areas for reclaimed water use.

Fully-Coupled Solution of Pressure-Linked Fluid-Flow Equations

Description: A robust and efficient numerical scheme has been developed for the solution of the finite-differenced pressure linked fluid flow equations. The algorithm solves the set of nonlinear simultaneous equations by a combination of Newton's method and efficient sparse matrix techniques. In tests on typical recirculating flows the method is rapidly convergent. The method does not require any under-relaxation or other convergence-enhancing techniques employed in iterative schemes. It is currently descri… more

Ozone Reactions in Aqueous Solutions: a Bibliography

Description: Abstract: A reaction oriented list of references is provided for published papers and reports containing rate data or information on mechanism for reactions of ozone with various substrates in aqueous solutions. Catalyzed, as well as uncatalyzed, reactions are included. One hundred and sixty-four papers are listed. The period covered extends from 1913 to 1981.

Picosecond Time Difference Measurements Utilizing CAMAC-Based ANSI/IEEE-488 Data Acquisition Hardware : Operating Manual IE3, Version 1.0

Description: Abstract: Automated time-difference measurements at the picosecond level have been achieved. The system described combines the best properties of three common methods: the single heterodyne measurement technique, the frequency divider, and the dual-mixer time-difference measurement system. This particular system combines two instrumentation standards, ANSI/IFEE-583 and ANSI/IEEE-488 with new, modular dual-mixer time-difference measurement hardware. The modular, standardized hardware together wi… more
