Description: Abstract: From December 1953 to May 1954 an extensive airborne reconnaissance program was conducted in northwestern Arizona (Arizona Strip) and southwestern Utah. Five surface anomalies were detected, one of which has possible commercial value. Altitude-chamber investigation of J73-GE-1A turbojet engine component performance

Description: Report presenting an investigation to determine the altitude performance characteristics of a J73-GE-1A turbojet engine conducted in an altitude chamber. The engine had a ten-percent oversize turbine-nozzle are compared with the production J73 engine. Results regarding radial pressure and temperature profiles, compressor performance, combustor performance, turbine performance, and tail-pipe-diffuser and exhaust-nozzle performance.

Altitude Investigation of Can-Type Flame Holder in 20-Inchdiameter Ram-Jet Combustor

Description: Memorandum presenting an investigation of a can-type flame holder employing a fuel-air-mixture control sleeve in a 20-inch-diameter ramjet combustor conducted by free-jet and direct-connect techniques at a simulated flight Mach number of 3.0 and altitudes from about 70,000 to 80,000 feet. Results regarding the effect of shortening combustion chamber and effect of pilot-burner variables are provided.

Description: "Flow-angle and pressure surveys behind five, thin, pointed-tip wings of varying plan form have been made at Mach numbers 1.62 and 2.41. Schlieren studies at a Mach number 1.93 for the same five plan-form wings were made to illustrate the behavior of the vortex sheet. The surveys were conducted at 1.5, 3, and 4 root chords behind three triangular wings of 50 degree, 63 degree, and 72 degree leading-edge sweep angle, and behind the 50 degree triangular wing reversed" (p. 1067).

Description: Report presenting theoretical performance characteristics and estimates of effective specific impulse and weight for rocket engines serving a main and booster power plants for missiles. Description: From Summary: "The theoretical performance of a two-stage ballistic rocket missile having a centerbody and two parallel boosters was investigated for J oxygen and ammonia-fluorine propellants. Both power-plant and missile parameters were optimized to give minimum cost on-the basis of the analysis for a range of 5500 nautical miles. After optimum values were found, each parameter was varied independently to determine its effect on performance of the missile."
