Aerial Radiometric and Magnetic Reconnaissance Survey of Portions of Arizona, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, South Dakota and Washington: Final Report, Volume 1. Instrumentation and Methods

Description: From abstract: The objective of the work was to define areas showing surface indications of a generally higher uranium content where detailed exploration for uranium would most likely be successful.

Bibliography of Geology and Hydrology, Eastern New Mexico

Description: Abstract: The High Plains of the eastern New Mexico region are recognized as an abundant and varied source of natural resources. This bibliography of over 1,900 references concerned with geology, hydrology, chemistry, and geography has been compiled to assist physical science researchers in their study of this region.

Effect on Sediment Yield and Water Quality of a Nonrehabilitated Surface Coal Mine in North-Central Wyoming

Description: From introduction: The purpose of this study was to determine the magnitude of some effects of an abandoned surface coal mine on the hydrologic environment. Specific objectives were (1) to define areas of erosion and deposition; (2) to determine if the sediment yield from an undisturbed drainage basin was less than that from a drainage basin partly disturbed by mining activity; and (3) to determine if there were differences in chemical composition of hillslope materials, sediment, and pond wate… more

Engineering Development of Lithium/Metal Sulfide Battery Technology for Vehicle Propulsion : Summary Report, October 1977- September 1978

Description: The research, development, and management activities done in preparation for in-vehicle testing of engineering-scale lithium/metal sulfide batteries are described. These activities were carried out at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) from October 1977 to September 1978. Over the past year, lead--acid batteries were tested both in the laboratory and in a Renault automobile. The data obtained from these tests will be used to assess the performance of lithium/metal sulfide batteries. Testing of a… more

A General Model for Turbulent Momentum and Heat Transport in Liquid Metals

Description: This report develops a general single-point closure scheme for calculating the local levels of turbulent fluxes of momentum and heat in liquid-metal flows. Transport effects are accounted for by way of the three scalar quantities: turbulent kinetic energy; turbulence-energy dissipation rate; and scalar energy (or half the mean temperature variance). Their values at any point in the flow are obtained from the solution of conservation equations of transport type for each of the three quantities. … more

Low-Flow Characteristics of Wisconsin Streams at Sewage-Treatment Plants and Industrial Plants

Description: From abstract: The purpose of this report is to present low-flow characteristics of Wisconsin streams at sewage-treatment and industrial plants. The low-flow characteristics are needed to implement water-quality standards for all surface waters of the State. Water-quality standards in Wisconsin are based on the annual minimum 7-day mean flow below which the flow will fall on the average of once in 10 years.

Membrane Oxygen Enrichment Cost and Application Evaluation

Description: A separation process, similar to the reverse osmosis membrane process for the desalination of water, can be used for the separation and enrichment of multi-component gas streams. The development of new processing methods and modular packing systems together with advanced commercialization of desalination systems now makes similar processes for gas separation appear feasible and economical. Composite membranes have been developed that are both thin enough to provide a large gas flow and strong e… more

Nondestructive Evaluation Techniques for Silicon Carbide Heat-Exchanger Tubes : Annual Report, October 1977-September 1978

Description: This report discusses the adequacy of several nondestructive evaluation techniques for the detection of flaws in silicon carbide heat-exchanger tubing. Experimental results have been obtained for conventional ultrasonic testing, acoustic microscopy, conventional and dye-enhanced radiography, holographic interferometry, infrared scanning and internal-friction measurements.
