Carnotite Resources of San Miguel Bench, Montrose County, Colorado

Description: Abstract: San Miguel bench includes about 4 square miles in the southern part of T. 48 N., R. 17 W., New Mexico principal meridian, Montrose County, Colorado. Production of carnotite ore from the area has been about 15, 000 short tons having an estimated average graderof 0. 31 percent U3O8,and 1. 6 percent V2 05 Nearly all of the carnotite deposits occur in a single-continuous sandstone bed near the top of the Salt Wash member of the Jurassic Morrison formation. These deposits consist chiefly o… more

Criteria for Outlining Areas Favorable for Uranium Deposits in Parts of Colorado and Utah

Description: Abstract: Most of the uranium deposits in the Uravan and Gateway mining districts are in the persistent upper sandstone stratum of the Salt Wash member of the Morrison formation. Areas in which this stratum is predominantly lenticular have been differentiated from areas in which the stratum is predominantly nonlenticular. The most favorable ground for uranium deposits is in areas of lenticular sandstone where the stratum is underlain by continuous altered greenish-gray mudstone. Ore is localize… more

Distribution of Elements in the Salt Wash Member of the Morrison Formation in the Jo Dandy Area, Montrose County, Colorado

Description: The following report covers a chemical study that was made of the Salt Wash member of the Morrison formation of Jurassic age in the Jo Dandy area, Montrose County, Colorado in 1954. The chemical study was made to investigate the distribution of elements in the host rocks with emphasis on the pattern of variation as related to the position of known ore bodies, and to determine average concentrations of some of the elements in the major rock types.

Geology and Mineralogy of the J.J. Mine, Jo Dandy Area, Montrose County, Colorado

Description: Introduction: Detailed geologic mine mapping and sampling of the J.J. mine in the Jo dandy area, Montrose County, Colo., were undertaken to study a vanadium-uranium ore body in terms of the physical relationships of ore to host rock, the paragenetic sequence of ore minerals, and the sequential development of an oxidized suite of ore minerals from unoxidized ore.

Geology of Carnotite-Bearing Sandstone in the Uravan and Gateway Districts, Montrose and Mesa Counties, Colorado, and Grand County, Utah

Description: From Introduction: "In the Uravan and Gateway districts, the general character of the bedding in the ore-bearing sandstone and amount of alteration in associated mudstones, and the relation of these to each other, are the features most useful as large-scale guides. This report describes these features and their distribution, as well as some other significant geologic characteristics of the ore-bearing sandstone."

Geophysical Investigations on the Gramlich Group, Paradox District, Montrose County, Colorado

Description: From abstract: The U. S. Geological Survey made a geophysical investigation on the Gramlich group, Paradox district, Montrose County, Colo., during the period May 26 to July 11, 1952.. Electrical resistivity and self-potential surveys were made to determine the thickness of the upper Salt Wash sandstone and to test electrical prospecting methods in an area of shallow overburden. The investigations were made in conjunction with a diamond-drilling program.
