Description: An econometric model of air pollution for an intraurban location (the Chicago area) is constructed and estimated. The model treats employment and population as simultaneously determined. Exogenous variables are selected to represent transportation infrastructure investments resulting primarily from federal and state decisions. Effects of Environment on the Low-Cycle Fatigue Behavior of Type 304 Stainless Steel

Description: The low-cycle fatigue behavior of Type 304 stainless steel has been investigated at 593 degrees C in a dynamic vacuum of better than 1.3 x 10⁻⁶ Pa (10⁻⁸ torr). Description: Abstract: Ground water continues to discharge into the Navidad and Lavaca Rivers by seepage out-flow even though large amounts of ground water are pumped for irrigation. Although a reduction in streamflow probably has occurred, a complete loss of the low flow of the streams by infiltration to a lowered water table seems remote. Effects of Landfill Leaching on the Water Quality and Biology of a Nearby Stream, South Cairo, Greene County, New York

Description: From abstract: A 1-kilometer stream reach receiving leachate-enriched water from a small municipal landfill was studied from 1971-75 to document streamflow rates and chemical quality of the stream and ground water. The distribution of benthic invertebrates and microorganisms in the stream above the landfill was markedly different from that below it; the difference is attributed to the inflow of leachate.

Effects of Possible Compression Loading of EBR-II Subassemblies Due to Irradiation-Induced Swelling and Changes in Reactor Environment

Description: A condition of compression loading could possibly occur to a subassembly as a result of large length changes to irradiation-induced swelling and thermal expansion. The effects of axial compression loading on EBR-II experimental and driver-fuel subassemblies were evaluated. Description: Abstract: Rainfall and runoff data from drainage basins in the Houston metropolitan area and a 60-year rainfall record for the National Weather Service station, Houston-City, were used to simulate 60 annual flood peaks at 26 sites. Effects of Urbanization on Floods in the Dallas, Texas Metropolitan Area

Description: From abstract: The analyses indicate that in a fully-developed residential area, the flood peaks with be 1.2 to 1.4 times those from an undeveloped area; and the annual direct runoff will be about double that from an undeveloped area. Data were not sufficient to determine the increase in runoff from a highly industrialized area where the effective imperviousness approaches 100 percent.

Efficacy of the EBR-II FERD System as an Automatic Trip Device

Description: This report discusses the effectiveness of the EBR-II fuel-element-rupture-detector (FERD) system which detects delayed-neutron-emitting fission products. It is demonstrated that FERD provides no reactor or public protection for loss-of-flow or transient-overpower fault events that affect the whole core; such protection is provided by other systems.
