- Artist Statement from the MFA exhibition: In my recent work, I explore my identity as a first-generation American, using my painting practice to think about early memories of living in-between two cultures. These remembered moments allow a space for me to consider how both cultures merge. Portraying vivid memories through colorful recognizable objects and body parts, memories take on a new context, showing the passage of time, and reflecting on how memories take on new meaning. My desire to save these moments relates to my wish to name what makes me belong, and what marks me as unique, within the two cultures in which I exist.

The scarf is sewn into the neckline from right center back to just short of the left shoulder line. The scarf is asymmetrically shaped and hangs to knee-level. It can be worn hanging loose or cowled at the neck. Full-length set-in gathered sleeves of sheer coral pink chiffon. The sleeves gather into wide cuffs fastened with two covered snaps. Center back zipper closure from neck to hipline within a single hook&eye at the neckline. Natural waist seam with embroidered belt detail. The belt consists of circular medallions of rhinestones and gold bugle beads arranged in a chain motif. Full. floor-length gathered skirt. Fitted lining of coral pink crepe. The lining's skirt is slit to knee-level. Label located over inside left shoulder blade.

The floor-length dress is formed of two layers, and inner sheath, and an outer layer which is fully ruched, covering the inner sheath completely with layers of draping, and affixed to the inner layer at the neckline, zipper, and at cuffs. The dress has a V-neck at both front and back. The ruching forms "swags" which join at the neckline and center seams on front and back. The three-quarter length sleeves are similarly ruched, anchored along seams running from shoulder to wrist. Center back zipper and hook-and-eye closure. Inner grosgrain ribbon band just below bust which secures with hook-and-eye closure. Designer's label sewn inside at ribbon band: "Halston"
