This article explores how the photographs of a basketmaker, as well as photographs of other refugee artisans published in the August 1956 issue of Interior magazine, served the American State Department agenda by characterizing its subject in terms of pathos and need.
"Aloha" jacket
Man's "Aloha" sports jacket of black cotton with collar and inserted front panels of hibiscus flower printed cotton. "Y-3" logo incorporated into hibiscus floral printed fabric. Single breasted with notched lapel. Long suit sleeves with hibiscus print fabric on top of right sleeve. Patch pockets at sides match fabric of corresponding front panel; vertical zippered pocket at seams of front panels. Center back vent is machine embroidered with Y-3 logo. Partially lined in black net.

Artist Statement from the MFA Exhibition: "Through my art I strive to raise awareness towards the protection of the ocean. Plastic pollution, over-fishing, species extinction, and nuclear waste are some of the problems I symbolize in order to create conversations around the issues and do my part in starting a wave of change. The ocean is one interconnected circulatory system for our plane,t so anywhere that humans are abusing the oceans, it affects us all. I hope to remind people of the sacredness of the sea in order to help renew our reverence and respect for it."

Auto Fellatio
The artwork consists of collage images and small scale constructions that create a tableaux that is then photographed. The black and white photograph depicts a person having sexual relations with himself. Three teddy bears are in the foreground. The room depicted has one window in the background and a small alcove with an octagonal window in the upper right hand portion of the picture. There is a small foot stool underneath and to the side of the window. This photograph was included in the Photo III class exhibition, Lightwell Gallery, September 2012, in the Art Building on the University of North Texas campus.

Beaded coat
Sweatsuit-inspired beaded bomber or sukajan jacket. Jacket is styled with ribbed standing collar, lower raglan sleeves and hem of gray fleece resembling a sweat jacket with main body of gold metallic fabric heavily beaded in iridescent green/blue and purple bugle and seed beads. Beading is of two phoenixes on left and right front sides and Chinese dragon on back. Center front zipper closure with two slides. Lined in black crepe.
