Pillbox Hat

Description: Pillbox hat of black plastic tubing. The slightly domed openwork top of the crown is formed of a coil of black plastic tubing framed in a border of black plastic tubing forming a 7-pointed star. The cylindrical sides of the hat slope gently outwards, and have a shallow lobed or scalloped effect at the edge, with a series of openwork crescent shapes around the base of the crown. The crown is lined in black mesh and edged with a thin band of black plush. There are two plastic combs - one to each side - to help secure hat to wearer's head. Maker's label inside crown: "Bes-Ben / Made in Chicago". Gift of Mrs. William O. Hunt, of Finders Keepers, Chicago, Illinois.

Description: Pillbox style hat of lacquered black straw. The cylindrical crown is slightly domed, the sides slightly convex. Embellished with a single large faceted black plastic button "jewel" attached at side. The whole is overlaid with black net/veil, with scattered spherical black beads sewn to the net/veil. The interior of the crown is lined in black cloth and black mesh. Around the edge is an inner black grosgrain ribbon hatband. Attached to the hatband are two small plastic combs to secure the hat to wearer's head. Designer's label sewn to hatband: "Bes-Ben / Made in Chicago".

Description: Turban of printed fabric. The turban is made from fabric printed with blue, red and brown ocher ducks and white cattails on a navy blue background. The turban is lined in dull red mesh, and has an inner hatband of dark blue grosgrain ribbon. Designer's label sewn to inner hatband: "Bes-Ben / Made in Chicago". Beside designer's label is model number label: "720" Accompanied by a single short hatpin with square multi-colored glass head.

Description: Pair of slippers of red silk and gold metallic brocade. The shoes are designed with pointed toes, and a panel of gold leather that extends from below the throat, up and over the instep, and almost to the instep, sewn down, and echoing the point of the toes. Crossed with a gold cord bow with large rhinestones set at each end. Almost flats, the shoes have low, carved heels with a profile similar to a compacted Louis heel. Brand stamp: "Gustinettes / Trade Mark" Stamped inside: "6 1/2M 52770"

Description: Dress of navy blue silk chiffon. The full-length dress is sleeveless, with narrow straps extending across shoulders and meeting at center of the 2 1/2" wide A-line band at neckline. The straps and neckline band are covered with faux jewels. From the band drops the long A-line skirt of finely-pleated silk chiffon, which conceals a narrow sheath dress underneath. This dress is similar in style to one produced for Halley's 1967 collection.

Description: Dress of blue chiffon. The floor-length dress is formed of two layers, an inner sheath, and an outer layer which is fully ruched, covering the inner sheath completely with layers of draping, and affixed to the inner layer at the neckline, zipper, and at cuffs. The dress has a V-neck at both front and back. The ruching forms "swags" which join at the neckline and center seams on front and back. The three-quarter length sleeves are similarly ruched, anchored along seams running from shoulder to wrist. Center back zipper and hook-and-eye closure. Inner grosgrain ribbon band just below bust which secures with hook-and-eye closure. Designer's label sewn inside at ribbon band: "Halston".

Description: Pair of boots or "High Button Shoes" of brown leather. The shoes, designed with pointed toes rounded at the tips, lace closed along center front with laces 16 holes high. The medium height, stacked heels are rounded at sides and back, and are curved at front, tapering slightly to ground. The sole is of tan leather. The shoes are lined in off-white cloth. The base of the heel is of brown rubber(?) with molded marks. Maker's mark in sole: "Hamilton-Brown / Makers / [illeg] Molded into heel: "Cushion Comfort Heel 2" Stamped in lining: "450 24512H"

Description: Hat of open-work crocheted olive green straw. The high, somewhat conical crown is encircled at base by a band of green velvet ribbon. Sloping brim of same openwork crochet. Scattered over crown and trailing onto brim in places are applied artificial sprays of small white flowers with green leaves. Unlined. Inner green grosgrain ribbon hatband.
