Cloche hat of tan straw. The high, domed crown is of woven tan straw in a spiraling pattern. On either side of the crown is an applique in blue, pink/gray, and black felt of an arc or half-circle. On one side, the arc points up, on the other side it points down. Around the base of the crown is a narrow band of black felt. The brim is also of woven straw, upturned at sides and edged with black felt. The hat is lined in a slightly iridescent bronze/gold fabric, now very shattered. Inside the crown is stitched an ornate label, with a view of two women playing tennis and the inscription: "Berkeley / Made in / California". A small arrow and the word "Front" indicates the front of the hat. Attached to an inner seam of the lining is size label "22".

Hat of ecru lace and black horsehair. The high, slightly domed crown is formed of ecru lace, with a black satin ribbon bow to side, and a black satin band around the base of the crown, partly obscured by the lace. The wide, undulating black horsehair brim is oval, wider to sides than front to back. Inside of crown originally lined with fine, transparent black tulle, remains of which form an inner hatband at inside base of crown. Maker's label sewn to inner hatband: "Paris / della Donna / New York". Intended for afternoon wear.

Cloche hat of beige straw. The cloche is based on a Phrygian cap, although lacking the forward-pointing section at top. It is of crocheted beige straw thread. The crown is rounded, coming to a gentle point at to, and with sides that extend downwards to cover the ears. At the front is a crescent-shaped panel of printed chiffon which extends back and down sides of hat. The panel is printed with an abstract floral/foliate design in greens, reds, blues, and golds on a beige ground. Outlining the printed design is applied beige and gold cording, which are couched and sewn to the panel. The sides of the hat are embellished with vertical tucks, and the back has sections turned up and sewn to the crown. The hat is lined in a peach satin. Sewn inside crown is brand label: "Sheila / The Perfect Hat".

Cloche hat of straw. The high, domed straw is crown of sienna-red braid, with a band of solid reddish-pink silk around the base. Below the silk band is multi-colored ruched trim extending less than 1/4" from the band. Below the trim is a brim covered by sienna grosgrain ribbon, extending very slightly in front and disappearing in back. The hat is lined in a metallic bronze fabric. No designer's or retailer's labels, but hat does retain original price tag inside crown.

Cloche of beige straw. The domed crown is of Milan straw in a small braid. The wide brim is folded up against the hat, and is formed of similar straw work but in concentric bands of beige and darker brown, forming horizontal stripes across the forehead of the hat. Around the base of the crown, visible from sides and back, is a wide band of cream/beige grosgrain ribbon. A pleated "arrow" of the same ribbon is affixed at right temple, extending up and back along the side of the crown. Inside of crown lined in cream/beige fabric. No designer's, maker's, or retailer's labels in item.

Cloche of beige silk. The domed brim is of beige silk top-stitched and quilted to a base of grayish felt. The stitching is in the form of repeated and spiraling lines. At base of crown is wide band of brown grosgrain ribbon with bow at front. The brim is of the same material as crown, is shallow, and turns downward. It frames the face, with triangular extensions at sides. Hat is unlined. There are no labels or tags in the hat.

Hat of brown straw. Based on a boater, the hat has a crown of woven brown straw, somewhat domed, and somewhat "mushroom shaped", extending out over the sides of the crown. Around the base of the crown is a band of brown and tan silk ribbon, which has been unraveled. To one side of the crown is affixed a large pink/patterned silk crepe flower. The wide brim curls slightly at edge, and is trimmed at edge with the same unraveled ribbon. The crown is partly lined in black fabric with drawstring closure at top to adjust fit. There are no labels or tags in the hat.

Bonnet of multicolored fruit print cotton. Eyelet lace trimmed edges. Stiff brim and ties of self.

Infant's bonnet of ivory silk with ruched brim. Pink rosebuds embellish brim. Smocking on back of crown. Lined in pin-tucked gauze.

Lined in cream colored satin with two pockets. Finger loop of same on back side of purse at top. Maker's label on inside of purse: "Made in France / Exclusively by / Florentine"

Cosmetic case of silver in envelope shape with etching. Plunger opening. Gold interior of floral design with mirror and openings to hold makeup. Silver chain handle alternates between chain links and bars.

Handbag of glass beads of boldly colored shades of green, yellow, red, blue, pink and black in a somewhat stylized floral design. Bronze frame cast with floral forms and openwork, and set with navy blue and green cabochons. Roses on frame have remains of applied coloration. Suspension chain in rope form with spaced clusters of green and blue beads. Bag has looped and twisted fringe at bottom composed of green and black faceted beads. Pink satin lining, mostly deteriorated. Ball and socket filigree closure.

Child’s "Flower Girl" dress made from pieces of Irish lace. Knee-length, the dress has a round neckline and short sleeves which are slit along the lower 7 1/2" of length. The lower part is slightly A-line with scalloped lower edge, and has one horizontal section mid-way between waist and hem made to have a ribbon threaded through. The center back opening has a 7 1/2" slit at neckline, and a single snap closure.

Picture hat of finely woven black straw. The low, domed crown is encircled at its base by a narrow ribbon of black velvet onto which are sewn along front and sides 10 oval, black plastic (?) buttons. The ribbon is tied at back of crown, with bow and trailing ends. The wide brim extends out and slopes/curves down slightly. The hat is unlined, with inner black headband and a cord to help secure to wearer's head.

Opera coat of black velour with ecru floss embroidery. Rows of embroidery are embellished with knots and outside edges of rows are knotted with 1-1/2" loops of embroidery floss. Opera coat is full length, with long sleeves and center front opening with no closure. Lined in black satin. No labels in garment.

Coat of black wool felt, 3/4 length, with long sleeves. In bands above wrist and two bands above hem are rows of knitted wool material in checkered patterns of cream, orange, grey and black forming an almost plaid pattern. Center front opening with one large circular button and loop closure. Long, shawl collar of black fur trim. Fully lined in light brown/copper damask in square and diamond pattern on upper part of coat and black damask in circles and squares pattern on lower part with connecting band of horsehair braid.

Pair of girl's high top white leather sandals styled as boots. Designed with rounded toe, the shoes have six straps from vamp to above ankle that cross from inner side to outer side, and fasten with small simulated (?) mother of pearl buttons. Stacked heel of very low height, almost a flat heel. Stamped inside the shoe: "3C 243".

One pair of woman's high-heeled shoes with split t-strap, forming an inverted "V" from vamp to strap. The shoes are covered in a metallic copper/bronze silk textured weave and edged in gold metallic finished leather. The Boulevard set-under heels are lacquered with a metallic gold finish and set with rhinestones. One shoe with label inside: "Wise Shoe / For Every Occasion" Both shoes with hand-marked notations: "6 1/2 aa / D30014 / 11-564" Some rhinestones on the heels have been replaced at some point in the past with other rhinestones that do not quite match the original stones. Evening slippers or pumps of gold kid leather with inset panels of metallic gold brocade. Designed with gently pointed toe, the pumps have a low-cut plain gold kid leather vamp with curved upper edge and thin band of inset brocade which sweeps to side and widens out into large panels. Side panels, ankle strap, and back upper heel all of plain gold kid leather. Ankle straps fasten at side with single amber-colored rhinestone stud buttons. The 2" high modified French heel is covered in plain gold kid leather. Retailer's stamp inside both shoes: "Lord & Taylor / New York" Embossed on sole of each shoe: "5158 / 28 / Made / In / Austria / 6 / AA" Stamped inside shoes: "6AA"

Afternoon dress of dark green silk satin, crepe and chiffon. The tunic-style dress of dark green silk satin is street-length, with a drop waist. It has a slight standing collar at back which extends out in front to become long ties with a backing of dark maroon. Below the bow formed by the ties is V-shaped neckline. The full-length sleeves are dark green silk satin from shoulders to elbows and are translucent green crepe from elbows to cuffs. The main part of the gauze sections are embroidered with floral motifs in red, pink, and green/gold. The sleeves have two snaps at each cuff, which are trimmed with bands of pink crepe, maroon crepe, and dark green satin. On the front of the skirt are three wide, slightly overlapping tiers of fabric, split at center front, which start below the hips and end slightly above the hem. The dress is unlined, and there are no tags or labels.

Child's sailor dress of white jacquard cotton. Long sleeves with broderie anglaise lace at hem. Sailor collar with V-shaped yoke insert which wraps around left shoulder; standing neckline of lace matching sleeve hem and insert on sailor collar. Center front placket has left side opening with button closure (all buttons missing). Belt loops at sides (belt missing). Unlined.

Baby girl's white batiste cotton dress with lace and squared drawn work at the pin tucked neckline. Matching lace and drawn work at the cuff of the short puffed sleeves. Double row of squared drawn work around hem. Center back closure of three tiny mother-of-pearl buttons and loops. Cloth tape with blue script embroidered name: "Barbara Howell", for whom it was made.

Rectangular, metal frame with leaf pattern and ornate openwork clasp at center-top; decorative 18" chain with links formed as blossoms; fully lined in dark pink silk crepe with two inner pockets. Scene on bag is Assyrian. Measurements: 8 3/4" from clasp to base; 6 1/2" wide at widest; chain extends 9 1/2" from frame to furthest point. b) Powder puff of pale pink velour. Rectangular. 5 1/4" x 3 3/4".

Evening/dinner dress of black silk. White, lace-edged understructure. Net upper portion and sleeves. Sleeves ornamented with sequins.

Coat of black plush velour; trimmed with appliqué cashmere/paisley patterned fabric. Bell sleeves; full length; large rounded shawl collar. Red, multi-colored trim on cuffs.

Clutch style coat of floral brocade and blue velvet. The mid-length wrap coat is made of jacquard woven silk in a pattern of flowers in blues, taupe, and browns on a dark brown ground, with metallic gold stitching throughout. The raglan sleeves and the collar are edged in wide bands of shirred aqua blue/green velvet. Center front opening with no closures. The coat is lined in aqua blue/green velvet. No labels in garment.

Swag of pleated self-fabric at left hip, trimmed with five rhinestone medallions. One inch (mink?) fur trim at hem. Unlined.

Bandeau/bra of pale pink silk with lace trim and insets; tulip of lace at left breast; 1/4" ribbon straps; hook and eye closure at back; darts below bust.

Dress of black velvet. Knee to midi length. Bodice has V-neckline with wrap style opening with hidden hook and eye closures and snap closures at center left and loose lapel collar; waist is lightly gathered and has 2 darts in front and back covered with piping along with waist; short, dolman sleeves with 2.25" slightly gathered cuffs with same piping. 28" waist.

Evening dress of black faille with black tulle trim and rhinestones. Sleeveless. Full-length; full skirt with black tulle trim on the hem. Asymmetric, set-in waistband. Round neck in front and low V in back. Back has a fan-like panel just below the waist that is trimmed with tulle. Neckline has a 1-1/2" band of rhinestones in sprayed design that becomes a large circle at the back waistline then fans out in a spider web-like design on the back panel. Left side closure of hook & eyes. Unlined.

Kimono "tomesode" of black silk with small white heraldic Mon crests scattered across the upper garment. Inner lining of red silk printed with floral scape. Knee length; loops for fastening on both inside and outside. Single small label at inside collar: "Made in Japan".

Evening coat of black rayon, crepe textured jacquard. Black chiffon below fur at cuffs. Black glass beaded geometric spiral motif embellishments. The beading repeats the spiral pattern of the jacquard/damask weaving of the cloth. Rayon braid center closure; square shaped with two hook & loops. Narrow shawl collar of black rabbit fur with matching fur at cuffs. Lined in gray/green crepe. 22 inch waist.
