Ceremonial/Cofradia (religious society) Huipil. 2 breadth garment back strap loomed in cotton with cotton and silk single-faced brocaded designs - broad and widely spaced red warp stripes amid very wide areas of ixcaco (natural brown cotton) - no trim at neck or sleeves.

A) Blouse of soft blue denim. Styled as a vest, the blouse is of pale blue, very soft denim. No sleeves, center front opening with 4 circular buttons resembling obsidian (silvery to black as light changes). At each side the side seams overlap and are open from hem partway up blouse to allow access to under layers which contain slit pockets. Blouse is lined with white fabric printed with all-over repeat of Mr John signature/logo. No other label in blouse. B) Matching belt of same fabric. Designed as an exaggerated cummerbund, widening at center and narrowing to long straps at ends. Center section with row of 17 large circular brass/gilt metal grommets. Designer's label sewn to inside of center section: "Mr. John"

Cloche hat of medium brown coiled and plaited fibers. The high crown is crafted of spiraling band of plaited and coiled brown yarn(?)and incorporates looped sections, with iridescent flat ribbon wrapped around elements of the band. There is a horizontal "tuck" at back of hat, and a slight "visor" effect at front. The hat is unlined. Retailer's label sewn inside crown: "Made in France for / Neiman-Marcus". While in the style of a 1920's/1930's cloche, the materials, label, and construction date this piece to the 1960's.

Center front opening off-center to left, with hidden snap near throat and 6 buttons in concealed placket. Princess seaming for fit and flare, and with two slit pockets at hips behind side seam, which continues to form a pleat below pocket. Full-length sleeves with wide black cuffs of curly lamb/Astrakhan. Seaming at sides forms a pleated effect from waist to hem. Fully lined in dark blue silk(?) crepe. Two breast darts; two side pleats made with vertical darts and matching gold buttons which conceal pockets. Back has two side pleats and two buttons. Lined in blue silk.
