Afternoon Dress

Description: Afternoon dress of dark green silk satin, crepe and chiffon. The tunic-style dress of dark green silk satin is street-length, with a drop waist. It has a slight standing collar at back which extends out in front to become long ties with a backing of dark maroon. Below the bow formed by the ties is V-shaped neckline. The full-length sleeves are dark green silk satin from shoulders to elbows and are translucent green crepe from elbows to cuffs. The main part of the gauze sections are embroidered with floral motifs in red, pink, and green/gold. The sleeves have two snaps at each cuff, which are trimmed with bands of pink crepe, maroon crepe, and dark green satin. On the front of the skirt are three wide, slightly overlapping tiers of fabric, split at center front, which start below the hips and end slightly above the hem. The dress is unlined, and there are no tags or labels.

The Alchemist's Wedding Band

Description: The small scale sculpture, according to the artist, represents an alchemical allegory of marriage. It is symmetrical with two bulbous shapes emerging from a third round piece which is balanced on a crescent shape. The work is topped with a funnel shape holding some shapes made of lead.

Description: Alpine hat of dark green felt hat. Brim slightly turned up. Hatband of lighter green yarn with feather brush on one side with metal bird on handle. One metal hat pin with a stag and doe and a black and red emblem in top right corner. Unlined with leather inner headband. Labels inside crown: "Ludwig Zapf hutmacher Werfen" and "Lanz Salzburg".

Description: "American Flag Shoes". The pair of shoes is of white leather and red and blue suede. Styled in a way reminiscent of bowling shoes, the white leather shoes have rounded toes, and red suede overlays at toe box, upwards in a strip from toebox to vamp, and around lower part of heel. Blue suede overlay stripes at side have star-shaped cut-outs to allow white leather to show through. Blue suede edging at top of upper and top of heel. Shoes lace-up at front, 5 holes per side. White shoe laces. Shoes are "flats", with 3/4" high heels. Brand stamped on inside: "Flings" Illegible stamp inside.

Description: At Home Ensemble consisting of two pieces: A) Bodysuit of bright green knitted silk jersey with over-length sleeves and legs. Center back lapped zipper closure from neckline to lower back, with one hook-and-eye closure at top of zipper. Designer's label at inside left back, just beside zipper: "Rudi Gernreich". B) Tunic/tabard formed of two long rectangular panels of black silk with white printed polka dots all over. Boat neckline with thin "straps" simulated at shoulders where panels meet. The panels are sewn at left side for 17 cm. below arm and open the rest of the length. On right side are three snaps and one hook-and-eye closure. Left shoulder sewn shut, right with one hook-and-eye closure. The panels are lined in shocking pink silk. Designer's label at front inside, just below neckline: "Rudi Gernreich" Retailer's label at back inside, just below neckline: "Neiman-Marcus / Trophy Room"

Description: Ensemble of red/coral/dark rose satin. The strapless dress has an empire bodice which curves up in front at bust and is lower in back. The full-length A-line skirt is pleated into the waistband with inverted box pleats. The gown has a center back zipper closure with two hook-and-eye closures and two snaps on the placket. The inner construction is complex, with red grosgrain ribbon bust and waist stays with hook-and-eye closures and a boned white horsehair inner bodice which is lined with red chiffon. Inner structure has its own center back zipper closure which is behind outer zipper. There is an attached full-length red satin petticoat with horsehair hem and nylon net inner structure to support front skirt pleats. The skirt is piece lined in red chiffon. The accompanying bolero jacket is of matching red satin with all-over quilting in a patterns of waves and arcs in a red thread. The cropped jacket is semi-fitted, and has an open curved neckline and center-front opening with no closure, all trimmed in a band of red satin. Description: Ballgown of pink chiffon. Fitted, boned empire bodice with V-shaped neckline and double spaghetti straps. The bodice is constructed of diagonally pleated pink silk chiffon that crisscrosses over the bust. Center back zipper closure from neck to hip line with a single hook & eye at the neckline supplemented with a hook & loop mid-back and one at the waist seam. Empire waist with full, gathered, circular, ankle-length over skirt of pink crepe chiffon. Semi-fitted underskirt of pink chiffon over pink silk crepe. Wide, boned, white silk/nylon petersham secured down center back with four hook & eyes. Retailer's label at knee-level of underskirt's center back seam: "Neiman-Marcus"

Gored panels to left and right of center back seam of skirt. Inner bodice of black net with boning and black grosgrain ribbon petersham; closes at center front with 9 hook & eyes. Unlined. Description: Pair of wooden, raffia, and leather beach clogs. The slip-on shoes are designed with wooden platform soles with rounded toes, and a wide woven raffia strap across vamp which is dyed in stripes, red, off-white, black, orange, white, brown, and green. The raffia strap is attached at either side by narrow band of leather nailed into sides of sole. The 3" high heel is of a modified Louis style, and is painted with flower-heads in blues and reds, with similar floral forms on the sides of the platform near the toes.

Description: Beach clogs of painted wood, and red and yellow leather. The thick wooden soles are painted in a marbled pattern of greens and yellows on red ground. The toe-box is formed of two wide crossed leather straps, one red, the other yellow, each affixed to the sole by large-headed nails/tacks. The heels have red silk cord which is threaded through hole passing through the sole and tied around wearer's ankles. The modified French heels are painted to match the rest of the soles.

Designed as thick-soled espadrilles with coiled rope soles and rounded toes, the toe-box and heel section are of knitted cotton(?) in red, white, and blue patterns of squares and zig-zags on bands of color. From instep to sides of heel are tied red silk(?) cords.

Beachwear Ensemble - Bikini and Coverup

Description: Beach ensemble consisting of bikini and coverup. The bikini top and bottom are of jersey printed with a modern art design of greens, pink and red stripes. Top has ties that go up and behind neck, and bands that reach around to back and secure with metal clasp. At front, between the cups along top edge is a non-functional tie made of piping made from the jersey material. Bikini bottom is low-cut. The coverup is of light chiffon, possibly silk, with swirling stripes in the same pattern as bikini. It is sleeveless, has a boat neckline, and rounded hemline. The pieces of the ensemble have various tags: In bikini top: "12" In bikini bottom: "Emilio Schuberth / Roma / Fabricato in Italia"; Made in Italy / Exclusively for / Neiman-Marcus"; "Made in Italy"; "12"; Helanca / Filanca / Marche Int. Dep." Stamped near hem of coverup: "Enzo Mari Per / Fio / Rio"; Sewn in tags: "Fio / Rio"; "Emilio Schuberth / Roma / Fabricato in Italia". Pattern designed by Enzo Mari (b. Novara, Italy, 1932).
