Air Corridors: Concept, Design, Simulation, and Rules of Engagement

Description: Article presenting fundamental insights into the design of air corridors with high operational efficiency as well as zero collisions. It begins with the definitions of air cube, skylane or track, intersection, vertiport, gate, and air corridor. Then a multi-layered air corridor model is proposed. Traffic at intersections is analyzed in detail with examples of vehicles turning in different directions. The concept of capacity of an air corridor is introduced along with the nature of distribution … more

Expand-and-Randomize: An Algebraic Approach to Secure Computation

Description: This article considers the secure computation problem in a minimal model, where Alice and Bob each holds an input and wish to securely compute a function of their inputs at Carol without revealing any additional information about the inputs. For this minimal secure computation problem, the authors propose a novel coding scheme built from two steps. First, the function to be computed is expanded such that it can be recovered while additional information might be leaked. Second, a randomization s… more

Natlog: a Lightweight Logic Programming Language with a Neuro-symbolic Touch

Description: Article that introduces Natlog, a lightweight Logic Programming language, sharing Prolog's unification-driven execution model, but with a simplified syntax and semantics. The authors' proof-of-concept Natlog implementation is tightly embedded in the Python-based deep-learning ecosystem with focus on content-driven indexing of ground term datasets. As an overriding of the authors symbolic indexing algorithm, the same function can be delegated to a neural network, serving ground facts to Natlog's… more

The hygroscopicity of moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis) with a gradient fiber structure

Description: This article studies the hygroscopicity of moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis) with a gradient fiber structure assessed by a dynamic vapor sorption (DVS) apparatus and fitted with a Haillwood–Horrobin (H–H) model. The effects of the chemical composition, gradient fiber structure, and mesopore structure of the bamboo were also investigated. The results demonstrate that the hygroscopicity of bamboo gradually increases from the outer to the inner layer along the thickness of the culm wall, which is… more

Effect of Laser Shock Peening Parameters on Residual Stresses and Corrosion Fatigue of AA5083

Description: Article examining Aluminium alloy 5083 subjected to Laser Shock Peening both with (LSP) and without protective coating (LPwC) at multiple pulse densities. A second LPwC treatment was conducted fully submersed under water, in addition to the standard laminar water flow condition. Results show that compressive residual stresses were generated in all cases, although their character varied depending on the peening strategy and method of confinement.
