Effect of selection for commercially productive traits on the plasticity of cardiovascular regulation in chicken breeds during embryonic development

Description: Article investigates basic cardiovascular physiology in the Red Junglefowl, the broiler, and the White Leghorn breeds at 90% of incubation. The authors aimed to identify breed-specific features of arterial blood pressure and heart rate as well as the physiological mechanisms regulating them. They concluded that selection for rapid growth shifts cardiovascular regulatory plasticity to emphasize mechanisms that modulate pressure, and that selection for egg-laying capacity emphasizes mechanisms th… more

Effects of covalency on the p-shell photoemission of transition metals: MnO

Description: This article discusses the effects of covalency on the p-shell photoemission of transition metals. The treatment of covalency has not been included previously in ab initio theoretical studies of the 2p-shell XPS of transition-metal complexes. In this work, covalent interactions between the metal and ligands are treated on an equal footing with spin-orbit splittings.

Effects of light on the resistivity of chemical vapor deposited graphene films

Description: This article reports that the resistance of a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) grown graphene film transferred onto an SiOâ‚‚ substrate increases to higher saturation values upon exposure to light of decreasing wavelength from the visible to ultraviolet.

Effects of O2, Ar, and H2 gases on the field-emission properties of single-walled and multiwalled carbon nanotubes

Description: In this article, the authors compare the effects of O2, Ar, and H2 gases on the field-emission (FE) properties of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs).

Egg Yolk Environment Differentially Influences Physiological and Morphological Development of Broiler and Layer Chicken Embryos

Description: This article investigates the effect of breed-specific yolk composition on embryonic broiler and layer chicken phenotypes, using an ex ovo, xenobiotic technique that allows the transfer of broiler and layer chicken embryos from their natural yolks to novel yolk environments.
