Metabolic engineering of raffinose-family oligosaccharides in the phloem reveals alterations in carbon partitioning and enhances resistance to green peach aphid

Description: This article discusses the use of metabolic engineering to generate raffinose-family oligosaccharides (RFOs) at the inception of the translocation stream of Arabidopsis thaliana, which loads from the apoplasm and transports predominantly sucrose, and the fate of the sugars through the plant determined.

Metabolomics as a hypothesis-generating functional genomics tool for the annotation of Arabidopsis thaliana genes of “unknown function”

Description: Article describes the analysis of Arabidopsis metabolomics data sets acquired by a consortium that includes five analytical laboratories, bioinformaticists, and biostatisticians, which aims to develop and validate metabolomics as a hypothesis-generating functional genomics tool.

Metallic Nanodroplet Induced Coulomb Catalysis for Off-Resonant Plasmonic Enhancement of Photoemission in Semiconductors

Description: This article reports a new mechanism based on electrostatic interactions of carriers and their image charges in metals to generate more photons from optical sources at frequencies that are off-resonant to the localized plasmon frequency.

Minimization of Childhood Maltreatment Is Common and Consequential: Results from a Large, Multinational Sample Using the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire

Description: This article discusses a study to investigate 3 aspects of minimization, as defined by the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire's (CTQ) Minimization-Denial (MD) scale: 1) its prevalence; 2) its latent structure; and finally 3) whether minimization moderates the CTQ's discriminative validity in terms of distinguishing between psychiatric patients and community volunteers.

Molecular Markers of Neuropsychological Functioning and Alzheimer's Disease

Description: Article examines molecular markers of neuropsychological functioning among elders with and without Alzheimer's disease (AD) and determine the predictive ability of combined molecular markers and select neuropsychological tests in detecting disease presence. This work provides the foundation for the generation of a point‐of‐care device that can be used to screen for AD.
