Toxicological Case Study of Dallas' Central Wastewater Treatment Plant Effluent and Ambient Trinity River Samples: 1989, 1990, 1991

Description: "This study was implemented voluntarily by personnel at Dallas Water Utilities in response to concerns that the Dallas Central Wastewater Treatment Plant was adversely affecting downstream water quality." The treatment plant was studied to determine whether it was "discharging toxic materials in toxic amounts to the Trinity River" (p. 1).

Reactive oxygen species, abiotic stress and stress combination

Description: This article reviews recent studies on the role of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in abiotic stress in plants, and propose that different abiotic stresses, such as drought, heat, salinity and high light, result in different ROS signatures that determine the specificity of the acclimation response and help tailor it to the exact stress the plant encounters.

Gelsolin-Cu/Znsod Interaction Alters Intracellular Reactive Oxygen Species Levels to Promote Cancer Cell Invasion

Description: This article shows that increased gelsolin enhances the invasive capacity of colon cancer cells, and this is mediated via gelsolin's effects in elevating intracellular superoxide levels.

Minimization of Childhood Maltreatment Is Common and Consequential: Results from a Large, Multinational Sample Using the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire

Description: This article discusses a study to investigate 3 aspects of minimization, as defined by the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire's (CTQ) Minimization-Denial (MD) scale: 1) its prevalence; 2) its latent structure; and finally 3) whether minimization moderates the CTQ's discriminative validity in terms of distinguishing between psychiatric patients and community volunteers.

Phase space of positron trajectories exiting a charged particle source through a magnetic field point cusp

Description: This article presents a configuration of magnetic fields using properties of cylindrically symmetric permanent magnets as a candidate to produce a high purity charged particle source or trap. Cylindrically symmetric hollow permanent magnets produce magnetic field point cusps on the axis of symmetry. A magnetic field point cusp reflects all particles that lie outside a narrow region of phase space, a region dependent on particle kinetic energies and on the magnetic field intensity.

Reduced Heart Rate and Cardiac Output Differentially Affect Angiogenesis, Growth, and Development in Early Chicken Embryos (Gallus domesticus)

Description: This article demonstrates for the first time that different processes in the ontogeny of the early vertebrate embryo (i.e., hypertrophic growth vs. development) have differential sensitivities to altered convective blood flow.
