The purpose of this study was to make an appraisal of the educational philosophies, pragmatism and essentialism, and their effects upon the aims, methods, and curriculum of education. No effective effort was made to branch off into the many philosophical ramifications of the question, but the practical aspects of each philosophy were studied in order to determine how it has influenced education.
Geometry as the Structural Basis of Composition in Paintings by Botticelli
Fewer geometrical analyses have been made of paintings than of any other group of works of art. For this reason ten paintings by a typical Florentine painter, Botticelli, were chosen by the author in order to find out; first, the extent to which geometrical divisions were used in determining the enclosing rectangles and the main lines of the composition; second, whether or not the same geometrically determined relationships were used by Botticelli frequently enough to be considered an important determinant of his style.
The Relationship between Social Maturity and Personality of Primary Pupils in Eight Elementary Schools of Wichita Falls, Texas
This investigation concerned two major interests of many classroom teachers today: the pupils' social maturity and their personality. The problem was to determine the apparent relationship between these two factors in pupils of the first, second, and third grades of eight elementary schools in Wichita Falls, Texas.

This study is made from a practical standpoint. I shall endeavor to answer some of the questions that may arise in the minds of prospective parents as they consider the adoption of a child. There are many questions that will not be answered because the problems involved are so broad and take in so many angles that it is impossible to consider them all. In Peters and Pomeroy's fourth edition of Commercial Law, a number of cases are cited where there is a difference between the laws and rulings of the various states. There are only three cases in which the difference is given. The procedure was to find all of the cases in which there is any doubt as to the Texas law, and to quote the law or ruling as given by Peters and Pomeroy, and then to give the law or ruling of the State of Texas.

In order to make the study, two Texas counties, Denton and Young, which have bookmobiles in use in the schools, were surveyed and a comparison made with a survey of Jack County which has no bookmobile.

My purpose is to sketch briefly the diplomatic background of the existing relations between France and Germany from 1871 to 1939. I have told the story chronologically, because I believe that we must follow events as they unfold themselves if we are to understand why statesmen made their decisions. I have attempted to mass all the important facts that I could find on Franco-German Diplomatic Relations from 1871 to 1939 without self-interests or prejudices to either of the two nations. My intentions were to seek a general knowledge of the drift of Franco-German Diplomatic affairs during this period of seventy years.

Dark Adaptation Studies with Adults and Children, Using the Biophotometer
The present study is a part of a long-time cooperative study of the Home Economics Department of the North Texas State Teachers College, begun in 1940. The purpose is to compare the dark adaptations of second and third-grade children made in 1940 with those made of the same children in 1941 and in 1942. Also included in this study is the comparison of a group of freshmen college men made in 1940 with a group of twenty-five men made in 1942. An attempt is also made to determine whether an individual has higher dark adaptation on sunshiny days than on cloudy days.

Primarily, the purpose of the study was to show the immediate effects of the depression on the educational program in the United States. Secondarily, the writer hoped to encourage teachers not only to ward off another similar catastrophe but also to make the present educational program take care of the devastating effects of the past depression as far as possible.
