The object of this paper is to determine the optimum concentration of sulfur dioxide to be used in the commercial dehydration of the sweet potato by this process. Attention has been given to two aspects of the problem, (1) the effect of sulfur dioxide upon the extraction of water from the sweet potato by mechanical means, and (2) the effect of sulfur dioxide upon the stability of the carotene in the sweet potato over a period of several months.

Seasonal Variations in Microflora of Four Denton County, Texas, Clay Soils
This investigation has for its aim the confirmation of the correlation between soil moisture and the microflora of soils, and a lesser relation between the soil temperature and the microflora. The soils used in this study are typical clay soils of Denton County, Texas. The samples were taken from virgin pasture lands and analyses made monthly or semimonthly. The wide seasonal variation of temperature and rainfall afford a good opportunity for this study.
A Comparative Evaluation and Analysis in Terms of National Defense of the National Youth Administration, the National Defense Training Program, and the State Teachers Colleges' Industrial Arts Program
The objectives of this study are: first, to draw conclusions in regard to the extent the National Youth Administration, the National Defense Training Program, and the Industrial Arts departments of the Texas State Teachers Colleges are making "trainees" of the first two programs and graduates and students of the last division more employable in the several industries that make up our national defense manufacturing mechanism; second, to show by the presentation of the college programs whether or not the colleges are presenting the courses of industrial arts which are most needed by youth in this time of crisis and national defense preparation.
An Analysis of the Contribution of a Given Educational System to the Defense of Democracy
The purpose of this study is four-fold: (1) to present through an analysis of life needs the nature and source of a curriculum best adapted to democracy; (2) to present fairly some of the reasons why a curriculum must be founded on democracy if democracy survives the dangerous forces that threaten to obliterate its very existence; (3) to make an unprejudiced analysis of the regular situation now existing in Oklahoma schools at the present time to find whether her schools are meeting this challenge to democracy; and (4) to offer from the comparison of the summaries of these data recommendations whereby all schools may have a curriculum "rooted in the life of its people"--a program that contributes to democracy and permanent national defense.
