An Analysis of the Value-altering Effect of Motivating Operations

Description: Motivating operations (MOs) may affect behavior in two ways; A) an MO momentarily alters the frequency of behavior for which a particular consequence has served as reinforcement (evocative-effect) and B) an MO momentarily alters the behavioral effects of the relevant consequence (value-altering effect). Many studies have empirically demonstrated the evocative function of MOs, however, few if any studies have attempted to systematically manipulate and measure the value-altering effect. The focu… more

Design Method for Cold-Formed Steel Shear Wall Sheathed with Polymer Composite Panel

Description: In order to predict the strength of shear wall with cold-formed steel framing members, analytical models were reviewed. Multiple analytical models were studied, as well as twenty-one connection tests were performed. The connection tests consist of 50-ksi cold-formed steel framing track, different fastening configurations, and different sheathing thicknesses (1/8" and 1/2"). No.12 screw resulted in the highest peak load of all fastening configurations, while the rivet connection had the lowest p… more

Advancements in Instrumentation for Fourier Transform Microwave Spectroscopy

Description: The efforts of my research have led to the successful construction of several instruments that have helped expand the field of microwave spectroscopy. The classic Balle-Flygare spectrometer has been modified to include two different sets of antenna to operate in the frequency ranges 6-18 GHz and 18-26 GHz, allowing it to function for a large range without having to break vacuum. This modified FTMW instrument houses two low noise amplifiers in the vacuum chamber to allow for the LNAs to be as cl… more

We're Out Here: Poetic Transcendence and Charles Wright's "Homage to Paul Cezanne"
