A Comparison of Christopher Marlowe's Edward II and William Shakespeare's Richard II

A Comparison of Christopher Marlowe's Edward II and William Shakespeare's Richard II

Date: January 1960
Creator: Ford, Howard Lee
Description: This study purports to examine several areas of similarity between the chronicle history plays by Christopher Marlowe and William Shakespeare. Edward II and Richard II are alike in many ways, most strikingly in the similarity of the stories themselves. But this is a superficial likeness, for there are many other likenesses--in purpose, in artistry, in language--which demonstrate more clearly than the parallel events of history the remarkable degree to which these plays resemble each other.

A System for Measurement of Negative-Ion Charge-Exchange Cross Sections

A System for Measurement of Negative-Ion Charge-Exchange Cross Sections

Date: January 1960
Creator: Wingo, Dale T.
Description: A radio-frequency positive-ion source and a fifty-kilovolt linear accelerator were designed and constructed in order to produce sizable quantities of hydrogen, helium, nitrogen, neon, and argon. Plans were then made to equip this ion source with charge-exchange apparatus suitable for charge-exchange cross-sectional measurements. It is the purpose of this paper to present the design of the equipment and to present operational knowledge of the equipment and of ion beams which are producible.

Tactical Operations of the West Gulf Blockading Squadron in the Civil War

Tactical Operations of the West Gulf Blockading Squadron in the Civil War

Date: May 1960
Creator: Koehne, Clyde Collom
Description: Of the large amount of writings concerning the Civil War only a small percentage pertains to the Federal Navy's role. This is understandable since this was primarily a land war. A few of the Navy's exploits such as the capture of New Orleans, the sinking of the Alabama, the capture of the Florida in Brazilian waters, and the Trent affair received great amounts of publicity, but the majority of the naval activities were of a routine nature, each individually warranting little notice but collectively contributing immensely to the final Federal victory. The purpose of this paper is to show in detail the role of only a portion of the Navy, the West Gulf Blockading Squadron, during this struggle.

The Problem of the Artist in Society : Hawthorne, James, and Hemingway

Date: August 1960
Creator: Beggs, Jane K.
Description: The relationship of James to Hawthorne and of Hemingway to James certainly indicates the close literary relationship of the three writers. This development makes it seem only natural that three such self-conscious artists would have recourse to similar interests and would employ in their writings common themes, ideas, and methods.

A Set of Axioms for a Topological Space

A Set of Axioms for a Topological Space

Date: August 1960
Creator: Batcha, Joseph Patrick
Description: Axioms for a topological space are generally based on neighborhoods where "neighborhood" is an undefined term. Then, limit points are defined in terms of neighborhoods. However, limit points seem to be the basic concept of a topological space, rather than neighborhoods. For this reason, it will be attempted to state a set of axioms for a topological space, using limit point as the undefined concept, and to delete the idea of neighborhoods from the theory.
