The initial purpose of this work was to investigate the interaction of methylmercuric chloride (MMC) and X-irradiation given as a co-insult upon the rat blood-brain barrier (BBB). The indicators used to determine BBB alterations were mortality and the in vivo tissue uptake of radioactive sulfate administered as 3 5S-sodium sulfate.
