The Effects of Long Term Moderate Ethanol Intake on the Immune Response in Rats

Description: Using a rat model, the effects of a single dose or six to twelve months of daily oral administration of ethanol on the immune system were determined. The rats were challenged with sheep red blood cells after the various dosing periods to elicit an immune response. Immune system responsiveness was determined by means of white blood cell counts and differentials, antibody titers, and T-cell numbers. Neuronal Survival After Dendrite Amputation: Investigation of Injury Current Blockage

Description: After dendrite transection, two primary injury current pathways may acount for cell death: (1) the lesion current at the site of injury and (2) the voltage sensitive calcium channels along the dendrite. Lesions were made with a laser microbeam in mouse spinal monolayer cell cultures. Polylysine was tried as a positively charged "molecular bandage" to block the lesion current. The Stress Protein Response of Pimephales promelas to Copper

Description: Organisms synthesize stress proteins in response to a variety of stressors. The 68/70-kDa proteins (synonymous to the 72/73-kDa proteins) have shown to be the most promising stress proteins, and have been proposed as a biomarker of general organismal stress. The 68/70-kDa proteins were used in an antigen/antibody based approach to determine the duration of the stress protein response of Pimephales promelas following an acute exposure to copper sulphate.

The Teratogenic Effects of Nocodazole and Acrylamide in Mus Musculus

Mitochondrial DNA Restriction Site Analysis of the Phylogeny of the Truei and Boylii Species Groups of the Rodent Genus Peromyscus (Cricetidae)

Description: The phylogenetics of eight species of the Peromyscus truei and P. boylii species groups from 15 populations were analyzed based on mitochondrial DNA sequence differentiation, using 13 hexanucleotide specific restriction enzymes. Dielectric Properties of Azotobacter vinelandii in a Microwave Field

Description: A resonant frequency cavity was used to determine the dielectric properties of various preparations of Azotobacter vinelandii ATTC 12837. The Passage of Sodium-24 and Rubidium-86 Across the Blood-Brain Barrier System of Canines at Low Body Temperatures

Description: To evaluate the blood-brain barrier system in the pathogenesis of an irreversible hypothermic state in dogs, concentrations of 2 4 Na and 86Rb were measured at body temperatures ranging from 37 0 C to 160 C. Description: Gut contents of 2,500 stonefly nymphs, comprising 10 species, from the Gunnison and Dolores Rivers, Colorado were examined from Dec., 1974-Oct., 1975. Trophic Structure and Energy Flow in a Texas Pond

Description: Annual energy flow and mean annual biocontent of eighteen compartments were determined for a 0.94 ha north central Texas pond ecosystem. Drumming Behavior of Selected Nearctic Stoneflies (Plecoptera)

Description: Drumming was recorded for 11 of 13 Nearctic stonefly species, representing 4 families. Both male and female signals were obtained from 5 species, and were either 2-way or 3-way communications.
